And I'm probably about one of the only people here that would recommend Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. :B *Raises his hand* Also, I second Muta's suggestion to get God Eater. And whoever suggested it's suggestion of Half-Minute Hero.

*glances through the thread* Wow, thanks for the suggestions, everyone! :o
I already have a copy of P3 Fes that I haven't played through yet (and might not for a while, between its length and a few other things).
I never actually played the original Valkyrie Profile, so I might check out the PSP port.
I tend to enjoy the genre more often than not. My dislike of Jak II makes me kind of wary of it, but I might end up giving it a shot anyway.
...Which I haven't played, but the modern Phantasy Star games at least look a lot more palatable to me than most MMOs, so I might just give this one a shot.
I've always been kind of interested in the Disgaea games from the plot and the sense of humor, but I've generally shied away from them because they seem like pretty hardcore SRPGs -- and while I play them once in a while, I'm not really the biggest fan of the genre.
As for the Prinny spinoff, Wyrdwad's right -- sadistically cruel games aren't really my thing. :p
I do, actually, but thanks for the suggestion. I'll probably be playing it almost exclusively plugged into the TV, so for console ports, I'd usually rather just play the console versions.
I was watching video of the demo a few weeks back... brings back memories -- the remake is probably closer to how I remember the game than the PSX version I actually played was (as odd as that might sound).
It caught my attention, and I'm not completely against it... but not until I go through the unplayed copy of KH II sitting on my shelf. (To be honest, I didn't really enjoy the first Kingdom Hearts game all that much, and while I picked up KH II when it was cheap because of all the comments I heard about the improvements they made, it hasn't been that high on my gaming priority list.)

Disgaea? Hardcore? I don't even like SRPGs, but I still love Disgaea. Gameplay-wise, there's a much bigger emphasis on party-creating and special attacks than strategy. It's -much- less hardcore than Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics.

Secret Agent Clank is good too if we're talking about platforming games

It's -much- less hardcore than Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics. That kind of depends. You don't have to grind in FE at all, in FFT you have to grind a bit for good jobs, but in Disgaea you'll probably need to grind for hours. If you challenge the postgame extras in Disgaea, the amount of grinding just skyrockets. I enjoyed the main story of all three Disgaeas, though. Other than that, you're right, Disgaea is less hardcore.

The grinding doesn't really take too long if you do it efficiently, and even then it's only for the post-game content. You can pretty much blow through the main story if you're being smart with character placement and abusing Geo Panels/character throwing the way you're supposed to

I couldn't have beaten Kurtis or the last battle for the life of me without some grinding, but if you say so. Disgaea 2 and 3 were more lenient in this regard, though, I guess you're right about that.
Grinding for post-game content, though? That definitely will take you several hours. Going to the item world to get Statisticians/whatever else you want is bad enough, and then you actually need to go grind levels afterwards.

Oh yeah I guess I'm talking about those games. Honestly I hate the first Disgaea but I loved 2 and 3. 2's final chapter is one of my favorite parts of any tactical RPG ever, maybe my absolute favorite after the Batomys fight in Valkyria Chronicles

Yeah, then I'd agree. I was actually really surprised when I played Disgaea 2 on the PSP (that was my first time playing it) because I was expecting several choke points where I'd need to grind it out, but it never really happened.
I love Valkyria Chronicles too. I'm looking forward to the sequel even though I wish it would have been on the PS3. It does seem to look good despite the hardware downgrade, though.

Yeah I want to play it but I'll hold off on getting it right away, since it's coming out at kind of a bad time. It's right in between Ys Seven and Phantasy Star Portable 2, both of which I'm getting ASAP

Since platformers are mentioned here, I'd like to throw in Little Big Planet. Sure, it's not as "Japanese" as most ppl here would like, but its gameplay is truly awesome. I know, it's actually a PS3 game, but the PSP version still rocks!
And on a totally different level: Pinball Hall of Fame, the Williams Collection is a must have..
Anyway... I guess I should be talking RPG's here. So what about Lunar Star Silver Harmony?

Good choices, although I didn't like the Lunar game on PSP. I really want to play the SCD version, but I found the PSP kinda painful in some ways. That, and if somebody has already played the others, it'd be even worse, I bet!
Still, I can 100% vouch for LBP!

LBP on console is one of my favorite games of all time, but it loses a huge part of its appeal on the PSP because of the lack of co-op which honestly killed the experience for me. You might enjoy it if you like playing single player LBP though

Is Disgaea 2 self-contained enough to be playable without the first one for context? Since platformers are mentioned here, I'd like to throw in Little Big Planet. Sure, it's not as "Japanese" as most ppl here would like, but its gameplay is truly awesome. I know, it's actually a PS3 game, but the PSP version still rocks! Thanks for mentioning that -- the PS3 version caught my interest, but I hadn't really known about the PSP version 'til now. (Also: Welcome to ALoY!)

Yeah, you -can- play Disgaea 2 without playing Disgaea 1, but I wouldn't recommend it... then again, that may just be because I'm a NIS whore. Plus, some characters' appearances in Disgaea 2 won't be as epic. Like the Prism Rangers.

I think all of the games I'd recommend have already been listed here. Anyway, onto the point of this post: Peytral, your avatar keeps changing... it amuses me.

Just as long as we can all agree that there was no Lunar Legend

I'm not saying it isn't the worst iteration, but I own Lunar Legend and I quite liked it. I have never played the others, but it's fine. :/

By today's standards, the Sega CD version is by far too dated to enjoy all the way through. I can't do it anymore, I don't know what it is, but the PSX and PSP versions are my favorites. I'd LIKE to try the GBA version, but I doubt that'll happen anytime soon.
