I think the problem with Chronicles is that the quality parts of the soundtrack were back-loaded. As in, they saved everything good for Ys II and Ys I was just 'all guitars all the time forever', which got boring. The TGCD version of Palace of Destruction can never be topped for me, either. It did have the best Palace of Solomon by far, though. EDIT: I will concede that Dreaming and Tower of the Shadow of Death kicked some ass too That's because even in every other version of the game, Ys I's music was vastly inferior to Ys II's.

I think another big thing is the quality of Ys I's music is way more dependent on its arrangement than II's. The compositions of II are way more versatile as far as how good they sound when being played by different instruments.

I think the Complete version has the upper edge to me, it just seems that much more urgent. The thing that I LOVE about Darm Tower(more than any other Ys final dungeon) is that it's made very apparent that Adol's trip takes place over the course of a single night, and they nail the atmosphere with that amazingly in Complete. By the time you get to the floors where Tension is playing, you can see from the outside areas that the sun will be coming up soon so you're like 'oh crap I gotta hurry up with this!'. The music is very important in that part, and for that song I think Complete nailed it the best

I'unno. The Chronicles version of Tension is about one of my favorite things ever. D:

See, the thing is, I've never played an Ys game with Tension in it. D:

Do you have the same icon on facebook? I feel like we are having the same conversation over there. :) :3 That's me indeed. And I think you're right about the super saving service! Guess they have some bulk shipment deal with the postal service or something. I shall wait! :V Wow. No one else chose the cheapo shipping method? XD

I'm a big fan of the guitar stuff so Ys I never got boring to me musically. I think I and II stack up pretty equally to me.

I'm not sure it was in Legacy of Ys either

The turbo grafix version and DS version didn't have them. I think Chronicles is the only I've played that has them as well.

It'll be weeks before my copy arrives, but hopefully the ISO will get dumped within a day or two.
Also, I'm not really sure which version of I & II's soundtrack I prefer. I'm going to play through the game with the Chronicles soundtrack to see how they all do in context compared to Complete's, though.

Eternal Story has yet another version of the soundtrack? Or is it just a sound-quality difference or something like that?

I'd be most interested in Tower of the Shadow of Death, since that's probably my favorite Ys I/II track.

Yeah, Tower of the Shadow of Death is a unique choice for favorite Ys I & II music, I think. I think it might be because I always think of Darm Tower when I hear it, which is my favorite dungeon in the entire series.

Really? I think I recall most people disagreeing with me when I mentioned it in another topic, but that was a while ago, so I can't remember accurately.

Good point, I didn't consider that. I'm also very fond of the version in Origin. Can't wait to hear it in context!
