... I think people just skip the manual and help screens these days. Perhaps there needs to be an important NPC with "RTFM" as its only dialogue. .___. I do have to say that the map isnt in the place where you would usually find it (under select or start button).

If they're hailing the boss fights in Seven, then I too am looking forward to seeing what they think of the boss fights in Felghana. Because yeah... Seven's boss fights are child's play by comparison. -Tom I am really REALLY looking forward to Felghana reviews seeing as it's only negative being its short length. Even that is nitpicking - OiF is just too perfect.

It's in the box. ;) Haha. :P But seriously, needing to find the world map in the item menu is no excuse that the guy didn't know where to go. Do reviewers get manuals? Because the bit about the little flag (for target location) and Adol's cute little head indicator (for current location) is in the goddamn manual.

When you get the map in game there's even a little tutorial pop up that tells you that your next objective is marked on it
The internet needs more reviewers who ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME

I think the reviews will go like this: "No party system, feels like a step back, story is even more cliché, no items, BAWWWWWWWW DIFFICULTY. 6/10"

1up got around to talking about this game on one of their podcasts. They love it, Jeremy called it the first Ys he's truly enjoyed. They hate pretty much everything about the story and cutscenes though(which is fair honestly)

I dunno. I'm really trying to be objective but I actually can't think of any criticisms to level against Oath. For what it is, I honestly believe it's perfect.

I can't tell if I like that review or not. He gave a shining review of the combat system but lambasted the plot. I get that it's not super original, but he makes it out to be torture to read through the dialogue. Sounds more like he's tired of reading than anything.

I've played many RPGs with worse scripts, more boring plots, and longer intros than Ys Seven. This guy is obviously just one of those "RPGs suck lol" guys.

As long as Chronicles elaborates on the plot and characters more than the Ys Books I & II, then I'll be happy. >.>

Changing the story into something elaborate would ruin it. It's charm lies in its simplicity, IMO.

Er, sorry. What Wyrd said. Being 20-something years old, the presentation in Ys Books I & II was a little stale. I mean like, add more dialogue for characters and stuff like that. :U

I'm not sure if there's more dialogue. Perhaps some of the monsters scattered across the world got more dialogue and perhaps some of the characters did, but nothing particular stands out in my mind.

I don't think it's so bad anyway. I could certainly tell Ys Book I & II was an old game, but despite the story being virtually unchanged in Complete, it felt very different to me when I played it, and much more... modern, for lack of a better description. It didn't really feel stiff at all.

I love Ys I&II for it's simplicity, but if you're new to the game it's quite simple and boring. I just love it for the nostalgia it brings for me to my DOS era. although it's probebly the worst Ys, I really liked it at the time, some 20 years ago.
the PC-Engine CD version is IMO the best version that officially came out in the west. Ys I&II ETERNAL is just epic for all the people who worked on it, like Makoto Shinka for the back grounds in the game and anime cut-scenes, and Tenmon was in Falcom Sound Team JDK at the time.
these two people have since left Falcom and made great anime since, like Voices of a Distant Star and 5 cm per second.

I don't think it's been more than 3 years since I downloaded Ys I & II on the virtual console and I enjoyed them. After having played Complete, though, I really don't think I could go back to playing the old version(s). The inferior graphics and that obnoxious border on the screen... everything is just much better in the newer versions, IMO.

Eh, Peytral, Jeremy Parish is certainly not one of those RPGs suck guys. He hosts Active Time Babble and although is tired of a lot of the crap (who isn't?) he still loves a good RPG.
I will also say, I'm not at all interested in Ys Seven's story, and tend to hate the stories in the Ys games I played. I mean, is there worse? Yeah, but that doesn't mean it's not bad.
Especially in a pumping action game, yeah, that's pretty balls.
I keep getting less and less interested in Ys Seven... I think I'll just buy some comic books.
edit: He also basically called the game itself freaking awesome, the game, as in the gameplay, as in the parts you play. So isn't that what matters? Y'all are acting like fanboys, which isn't weird because this is an Ys forum, but is stupid, because, well, it's stupid.
"An 8!? WHAT? I think this deserves a 9.5!"
Well you didn't fuckin' review the game there did ya? And I should add that I reaaaaallly hate number scores, so that's a hard thing for me to defend.
And I'll repeat that I really REALLY love how you guys say that because there's shittier stuff out there, crap becomes okay. That's perfect!
editedit: I'll also add that I don't really like Falcom OSTs all that much.
