I've been replaying Ys IV SNES on my Wii (( I have a wad )) but I read about this having a patch, which I found with great difficulty. Is it worth the trouble of emulation? I'm about... hell, I dunno how far, I got back to Palmarock (( Getting killed by the boss there )) and I'm hoping this'll be worth it. I think I've found a good emulator, so I plan on giving this a try once I'm done with Ys 7.

Emulating a SNES on your computer is childs play (for that matter, so's emulating the PCE for Dawn of Ys) so it's not hard to do and it's worth it to understand the story. Also, you're not so far in that you'll be pulling your hair out at having to replay stuff (not that MotS is a terribly long game in any event). Now, if you'd beaten that centaur thing from hell, that might be a different matter. Hated that boss, just hated it. Never wanted to see it again in my life... which means that it'll probably be twice as hard when Falcom gets around to giving us us 'The Oath in Selceta'.
Oh yeah, and make sure you have the newest version of the patch.

I'm wanting to emulate it on the Wii, I just haven't found a PC Engine emulator that seems to have been updated in the last... 2 years, according to the Wii emulation site I use.

I wasn't able to get a legitimate copy and ISO/WAV/TOC rip I made, myself, to work with either of the Wii PCE emulators. If you managed to do it, I'd like to know as my Wii is my emulator of choice these days. I ended up playing through Dawn of Ys using Magic Engine on my computer
Also of note was I wasn't able to get any TCD game to work on my Wii, only Hucards. So maybe I was doing something wrong

If that's the case, then it's already been tested. I'm just gonna stick with my wad of Ys IV.

I did get them to play using nightwolve's PCE ripper, but no music played for either Ys III or Ys IV. :\

If I re-play Ys 3, I'll be playing the Genesis version.
As a matter of fact, I'll ptu that on my todo list.
I've used Magic Engine before, but I forget what game. Truth be told, I heavily dislike Magic Engine. Mostly 'cause of the Shareware aspect. Same goes for No$GBA, if it's still the same.

I used that same app to rip, but couldn't get Ys IV to even start up in WiiEngine For Magic Engine I use DaemonTools to mount the .Cue or .Toc file on a virtual CD rom drive It's worked great for all the TCD games I have: Ys IV, Legend of Xanadu 1 & 2, Super Darius

There are a few different emu's for PC Engine, Magic Engine is the only one that isn't free, though, it's maybe the most accessible. Ootake is really good, & Mednefen I believe it perfect.
As for MotS, what personally made me really not like the game, was the various districts at the end, Bronze district, etc. I just remember being confused & lost for so long in atleast one of those districts.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I should mention that since October of 2011 Mednafen has been ported to the Wii. Which runs Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys perfectly, along with everything else for that matter. (link) code.google.com/p/wii-mednafen/

Does it support TG-CD games? Getting those to work, especially with sound, has been my problem with all prior PCE emulators on the Wii
I'm gonna be hesitant to ever upgrade to a Wii U because I'm gonna lose my best dedicated emulator system <_<

Does it support TG-CD games? I said it emulates Ys IV perfectly, so yes it does. Wii-Mednafen has been able to play any Hu card or CD game that I've tried on it perfectly. Also I agree that the Wii is a fantastic emulation box! Especially since it has the classic controller and the ability to output in 240p. The Wii's amazing homebrew catalog alone is a good enough reason to own a Wii. In my opinion it's retro gaming at it's finest

I whole-heartedly agree. It's the number 1 reason to own a Wii

Wow. Old topic, but updating for content.
I recently got an Ouya, and the PCE emulator on the system is FREE~ So I played a copy of Ys 3.
I couldn't stop, and now I'm wandering Deminiceus (( Can't spell it )) island. Now I seriously need to figure out how to get a copy of Ys 4 translated proper.
And I found it. Woo.
