I'm gonna jump on board with wyrdy, comic sans looks fine. I even kind of like it. Whoever made that website posted above has a little bit of a stick up their ass if they're upset about a font. There are far worse problems in the world... like how my hotpocket won't heat up evenly.

HOLD IT!! Let me just get one thing straight with you, here and now! Hot Pockets *NEVER* heat up evenly! Ah, that sounds so good right now...

I still don't get all the hate for Comic Sans. It's really a very pretty font! Aesthetically pleasing AND easy to read. Makes no sense that people regard it with such vitriol. -Tom It's an effective font... for comics. Hence the name, "Comic Sans". But in other situations, there are far better fonts that would provide better representation. Another font that one of my teachers constantly rats on is Papyrus. Says that if you aren't going for an Egyption feel, then you shouldn't use it! Although we tend to rib him a lot for this, I think he has a point--there is a place for everything, including Comic Sans and Papyrus. People just need to learn where those places are. EDIT: Also, wow! Didn't expect to see this topic suddenly explode with such activity.

I'm going to have to agree with adoru as far as the cover art goes. I always felt that Ys had an aura of classiness about it. Sure it's not exactly high art and it has it's share of cliches, but there is a certain level of care Falcom has given it (especially in the last decade or so). Their cover art and graphic design exudes this for the most part. Unfortunately, the western version doesn't look very classy at all. The bright yellow bevelled title text looks chintzy I'm afraid.
Oh well, beggars can't be choosers I suppose...

Yeah, about that, I think people mostly just hate how Comic Sans is widely abused, and not the font itself. I shake my head too when I see the font used in inappropriate places like gravestones, restaurant signage, and medical information. Indeed. It also comes prepackaged with just about every machine, which lends itself to overuse and abuse, which in turn cheapens the font.

I don't care about the font. I love the fact such a great game made it to the US with the help of a well-meaning company that didn't butcher it like Bamco and Konami did with the other releases.
This is why I have OiF preordered. Not because of the font, because of the game.
(( I'm kind of iffy on Chronicles tho. Isn't that just a port of the DS version, or is it a port of the PC version with a better patch? ))

*shrug* I've always heard that Konami shortened a lot of stuff. I notice serious differences inbetween XSeed's localizations and Konami/Bamco's releases. (( Mostly non-Tales Namco RPGs. ))
Granted, I liked the Legend of Heroes PSP ports, but I saw a PC version video on here the other day. I feel betrayed. (( Also saw an opening anime-thing on youtube too. Sadface. ))
And good, I might buy Chronicles next year then. I know I'm buying Felghana, but wasn't sure about Chronicles. That might be a maybe. I've played Ys 1+2 too many times.

I have both the ps2 and PSP versions of Ys VI and I like them both, Konami did a good job. Obviously only issue was the loading on the PSP *if you dont have disc cache enabled*. If I recall konami fixed that loading issue and released a limited edition of the PSP ver. with the loading fix in Japan. I give really high credit for that to Konami.

I can just download it and see how it is. I'll end up buying it if the PSP version is good.
Ys 7 spoiled me I think.

Ys 6 has a patch? Got a link?
And I don't have a PS2, so it's either PSP or PC.

You think you're making a point in your favor, but actually, I really like the way that looks. In fact, I think I like it better than the ACTUAL cover. The Falcom and XSEED logos, especially, look AWESOME in Comic Sans! -Tom I actually agree with this to an extent. I don't think it looks particularly awesome, or better than the other, but it doesn't look worse either. Neither do anything except convey a meaning to me, and both are clearly legible, meaning they're completely equal. In games, there are precious few cases where font can really make a difference. For example, Half-Minute Hero has a very retro-y font which enhances the mood, but a game like Ys Seven definitely doesn't need such a special font.

That's why I don't get why these guys want a different font in Ys 7. It looks just fine.

The only thring wrong with the Ys SEVEN PSP box art is that it's too busy. in the US you guys like to throw every character that has a role in the game on the box art. we Europeans and the Japanese prefer a more stylish box art.
If XSEED releases the game on UMD in Europe they better use the Japanese box art.

I like the US boxart compared to the Japanese one.
Too plain.

The US boxart looks like it was made like this: "ok, we have 9 important characters, we place them large on the box. oh crap... we forgot the logo, oh we just pllace it somewhere in the back."
but like I said, that's what most boxarts in the US look like. for Final Fantasy and resident evil (up to part 5) we Europeans always have had just the logo of the game on the cover, no characters. US boxarts of those games have characters on the front. we Europeans are strange that way.

Well, that's a rather generalizing statement, but it is somewhat true. Just look at Heavy Rain. No offense to XSEED of course, but I do think the NA version has some pretty terrible boxart. Meanwhile, the Japanese version has a beautiful, subtle boxart.

comparison: Japanese US Europe indeed the US version is UGLY! Though I'm not sure if I prefer the JP boxart over the EU boxart. both are cool

Oh, btw, Vanquish has some great boxart. It conveys a sense of action but despite that it doesn't feel crowded, and it also looks sleek and futuristic. Not that I'm an expert on this sort of thing at all.
