I've never played OiF before and am really looking forward to the upcoming PSP release. I was watching some gameplay videos of the PC version on YouTube and it looks like OiF uses checkpoints rather than allowing you to save anywhere. I know the game is already out in Japan and I'm sure some of you guys have imported it already. So, for those of you that have played OiF PSP, can you save anywhere or does it use checkpoints?

Being a port of a game not designed for a portable system it lacks the save-anywhere system of Seven in favor of the PC's checkpoint-based system. The plus side is that it has the same system as Origin: If you get killed you have the option of restarting from the point where you entered the screen you died on with the HP you had at the time. It's not perfect but it's better than having to start all the way from your last save (and once you get far enough into the game you can always warp back to a save point if you need to quit the game and don't want to lose your progress).

PRO TIP: Save at the save point again BEFORE going down the platform for the final boss battle. :P Spending these extra seconds going back to the previous screen is WORTH the trouble.
Also, the damn final boss takes his damn time talking. Just like Genos. Seriously, you can leave your PSP, go get a snack in the kitchen, use the washroom, and then come back and the dialogue will STILL be going.
AND YOU CAN'T SKIP IT. At least you can speed through text in the game (except the bloody monologues).
