I use Win764bit/AMD PII 955 x4/GTX260. I have Ys I Complete the latest nightwolve patch 1.27. I just installed it tonight. I get these weird colors and graphical oddities that I can only describe with this picture: I had to take the picture because if I hit prtscn button it looks normal even though when I'm playing it looks like the above picture. I don't know if this means anything to anyone. It seems a clue as to the problem. Anyone know what magic I need to do?

Yea, bringing up the task manager and closing explorer works. Not really a fix but a work around. Thanks though, at least I can play the game.

Well, there was also a suggestion of creating batch files (see the last post on page 1 of that topic) for both games, which a couple people said works fine. I don't know much beyond the basics of computers though, plus I don't run Windows 7, so I can't really comment further.

It must be some conflict with something that explorer does. After all, disabling explorer fixes the problem. It's just not a very good fix because I like to keep other apps open while I play.
I've tried disabling aero, but that doesn't seem to work. And changing the color of the desktop. Changing things in the nvidia control panel. But nothing seems to work. It's probably some compatibility issue. I believe Fallout 1 & 2 have a similar problem. I tried windows xp mode and it worked, but there was these weird anomalies that would flicker all around the screen and it's a little slow, plus I can't get full screen either. You have to disable integration features to get it to work in xp mode.

Yea, they are open before I close explorer, but when I close explorer they all close. The only way is with that download in the other thread.

Come on, it's an older game, we're lucky it works at all on Win. 7. I have the same problem. But the non-blue screens work fine, a couple random silver and gold changes in the title but that is all. At least you can see your way around better with the blue!!

Ooh a fresh one of these threads, now I can get more help. I ran the exe and made a bin to make the odd colors go away, but YsI plays in next to nothing FPS and YSII runs fine but crashes with the error: "Error (02) Desktop found" I wonder if I buy the games again if the issues will be fixed with the new software or if this will ever be solved outside of Falcom. Try the download in this post: seldane.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=ysI&thread=4742&page=2#144436

The short version:Run this once on the game exe and you won't have the color issue anymore: www.mediafire.com/?nvfsz00hkzudfvuThe long version:OK, so I've been running around posting this everywhere because the original "Eternal" copy has this same problem. The color corruption issue in older DOS/Windows games is quite a pain for many people. The issue stems from "DirectX 7 (or earlier) DirectDraw calls in a 256-color (8-bit) mode. This is not translated correctly to the current 32-bit displays." In addition, desktop composition is now using DirectDraw as well. Microsoft was well aware of this problem and implemented a fix for their older games (like Age of Empires) by substituting the newer calls for the older ones on select applications (making them once again run properly). The system, however, runs on looking up the application ID in the registry before execution - so games have to be manually entered - but even that is too tedious for most. This tool changes that: www.mediafire.com/?nvfsz00hkzudfvuThis handly little utility creates a registry entry from the application that will force windows to revert to using the original DD7 calls when it renders said application - fixing the issue without force closing explorer and being silly. You only need to do it once for each application (since it registers the appID) and every subsequent start is fine. You can even create a reg file if you want to distribute the fix to others. It even works with Windows 7 x64 :-D

As for the colors, I think silver for Reah comes from her harmonica and gold for Feena comes from her necklace. Just a guess. Reah has a necklace too...

Reah has a necklace too... Hey, you're right. I was only looking at various Ys I art, so I didn't notice her silver necklace. She doesn't wear it in Ys I. I'll be fair - the only reason I remembered right off the bat is that I'm playing Ys II at the moment - just got the final sword/armor.

Apparently the necklace Lair has is the Blue necklace from Ys I, called the Silver Pendant in Book II. Since the necklaces are so important maybe that's why?

But finishing Ys1 and Transitioning to Ys2, it would glitch up again in Ys2. With this app, I would get a very tiny flicker at the very beginning Falcom logo and then it would be fine.
