Although... that brings up an interesting point. Say you don't know if you like Ys and you buy Ys 7 (non LE) only to find out you think the music is tits. Does XSEED plan on releasing just the OST for some nominal fee (like $10-15) or would someone in that situation have to order from Falcom?
Like, I know a lot of us would just import the CD, but I can't say we're in the majority as far as how people would act.

doubtful, the point of these limited edition is because of the extra. it would make absolutely no sense to release them on the side.
oh, and sticky this... so people will read and NOT ask.

We shall sticky when and what we deem fit; I feel as though you may underestimate our abilities as moderators when you demand for us to take action. Regardless, I shall sticky the post as wyrdwad has laid down the law for what is and isn't respectful behavior here -- and I believe it would be helpful to have an ALoY mini-guide, due to the unfortunate loss of Deuce's posts. Thank you for the suggestion.

Uhh, not to sound like the hypocrisy police (hungry hungry hyppo), but don't people on this site link to music, like, ALL THE TIME? I personally don't own the ST to ANY of the music provided through YouTube embeds on here, and I can understand someone's thinking that an OST would be provided for them as well. Music is music regardless of medium right? At the risk of being banned: yuudai, seldane.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gaming&action=display&thread=3960seldane.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gaming&action=display&thread=4732ironically, you'll likely find everything you want here, or on the source site so frequently linked to therein. If I'm going to be reprimanded for sedition, so be it, but I'm not playing devil's advocate. I'm actually playing angel to a devil which is evidently acceptable on one shoulder, but chewed out when somebody turns their head. EDIT: correction: I just remembered I DO have the Ys Seven ST, though its still plasticed.

It is a terribly hypocritical rule, but I know it would be futile to try and fight it, so I don't.

There's other stuff in the LE though. How I would break down the price: Ys 7: $30 OST: $10-15 Map/Artbook: $5-10 I think selling the OST separate wouldn't hurt overall sales (it'd probably improve them actually) and doing so wouldn't punish new fans by making them buy another copy of the game just to get the OST. Wyrdy, you work there, what's your opinion?

Thank you for the suggestion. you shall do as you are told! now, gimme gimme gimme yes, while falcom can definitely make more money by selling the cd, the art work and the game seperately, it makes no sense from a marketing stand-point. the reason for the "premium" or "limited" edition is because of these extra. I can see the CD being repackaged and sold individually but it will have to be a different version then the one that came with the game.

If you blindly follow tradition and rules simply because they exist, though, then you're utterly useless. I don't expect to change anybody's opinions or feelings, or anything like that, I just point out dichotomies and ambivilances like some people correct grammar or spelling. I mean nothing by it. As you said, it's Falcom's hypocrisy, not ours. If anything bothers me it's this. While most of us, if not all of us, here love Falcom above all other developers, deeming other companies unfit for equal consideration is a -bit- unfairly biased. Anyway, I'm just a "Logical Monster," and I intend no offense by my observations. Feel free to ignore me like a Regalsin if need be.

If you guys want this board to be a fully piracy-free zone, though, let me know. Hell no. I'm as guilty as the next guy. I think I've already stated my stance on the subject. If it's worth my money, I'll buy it at an unreasonable price. If not. . . why buy it? Ys Seven Special Edition, worth my money. Ys 4 MotS. . . . . . [BANNED!] shit. Shouldda kept that to myself.

Also, to address the other issue that's been brought up: We did discuss the possibility of selling the soundtracks in-house, or selling the LE soundtracks separately from their LEs, but for various reasons both legal and practical, we were unable to do so. If you guys want to sell them on your own, though, I'm fine looking the other way -- don't think you're supposed to, but hell, if you own the LE, you can do with it what you want! We're not about to stop anyone. -Tom I see. Well that's that then. By sell the LE soundtrack, I assume you mean, sell our copy, right? Not make a bunch of copies and profit from Falcom's work.

To be honest Seven's OST did not grab me. It was good ear candy for adventuring, but the only track worth listening to ouside of the game was 'Being Slow On The Waves'.
What made me buy it was the story and lands which every fan should learn about^^

I do have one question: Would asking for technical help to convert the the available music from the game itself fall under this category? Assuming its only for personal use and that I don't have any intention to upload it?
Like, let's say I have Oath on PC. Anyone can dig around and pull out the .OGG files. Would asking for help/advice on how to go about converting them to say, AAC/MP3 result in me getting banned? (For the record, I do know how to do this.)
I'm sorry if it happens to be answered on the Falcom website - I don't read Japanese, and it doesn't seem to be answered there post-translation (at least, if it is, the meaning was lost.)

Asking how to convert one file type to another is generally safe as far as I'm concerned. No worries!

Righty-o then, I shall ask away.
I broke into the Ys Seven ISO (the PSP version), and found the bgm folder. There's a load of .at3 files that _probably_ correspond to the game's music.
Here is my question - is it possible to convert those .at3 files into .mp3 or any other format for that matter?

Indeed they can. HiMdRenderer can convert AT3 to MP3. It converts to 4 other formats as well.
