Play Mother 3 sometime, Bugen. I kid you not, the sound test has 250 tracks (not counting the tunes that strangely aren't in the sound test or were unused), and they've given some bosses their own unique theme songs! It's a surprisingly lengthy game. Maybe not "FFVII lengthy", but most certainly appreciably lengthy!
...Okay, that sounds genuinely impressive. And I've been tempted to play it for other reasons, too, but...
a) I feel like I should play the whole series in order, and I haven't played the other two yet...
...*waits for everyone to stop pelting him for not having played Earthbound*
and b) I have a huge backlog of games that I legitimately own, and in that light it seems kind of silly to spend my time playing games that I, er, don't.
I'd like to play it eventually, but I'll probably never actually get to it.
Repetitive battle themes aren't as bad in most RPGs as they would be in a hypothetical rhythm RPG (since not only would you be hearing the same music over and over again, but you'd pretty much be playing the same stage over and over again!), but I definitely appreciate it when games mix up their battle themes. Considering the amount of time spent in battle, it always seemed odd to me that most games stick it out with relatively few battle themes.
It could procedurally-generated... Not the best solution, but a POSSIBLE solution, at least.
Considering that one would expect the length of the battle to hinge on your characters' levels, that would actually make a lot of sense, at least for the normal monsters.
