Er, should there be a spoiler warning for this thread? D:
I had the PC-88 tunes playing all the way until The Clock Tower. That's when I switched to that X-something one.
Finally, at the final dunegon, I set it to Standard because that is the most awesome version of the BGM. <3 <3 <3

Yukihiro Jindo is my hero. What an amazing arranger.
Also, on a COMPLETELY OFF-TOPIC note, wouldn't it be awesome if Ryo Yonemitsu, wielding his Dawn of Ys arranging skills, did arranged versions of Ys I-III's soundtracks?

XD! I would have left it on the Felghana OST if it weren't for the fact that I've never really heard the other two before even when I played JP one.
So I figured why not?
But! Out of all the soundtracks I've heard for Ys III so far, I like Felghana and the PC Engine ones the most.
I don't think I've heard the SFC/SNES one before though. :o

Yeah, he did, AFAIK, and I'm not even within the superior levels of Falcom fandom.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the TG16 version of Palace. That is such a best song, with the water drips and stuff... Mmm! Is the TG16 a selectable soundtrack in I & II Chronicles? I know it isn't on the PSP version of OiF, correct?

I've got to give Falcom massive props for going back and PC88-ifying all those X68000 songs that weren't on its original soundtrack. That is dedication to the cause right there. That being said I usually listen to the Oath rearrangements, though it's a testament to Falcom music that you can pretty much listen to any of the three tracks and it still works. Is the TG16 a selectable soundtrack in I & II Chronicles? I know it isn't on the PSP version of OiF, correct? No, just the PC88, Complete and new Chronicles tracks. PCE tracks for it and Oath would have been awesome indeed but apparently there's a variety of issues preventing XSEED from using them. I'm guessing Falcom didn't use any other tracks for similar reasons.

OiF soundtrack all the way. When I listen to the X68k or PC88 soundtracks, they're nice but I find myself missing some of the extra arrangement and instruments from the SNES & Genesis versions. Case in point is every time I hear Elberm Mountains I keep expecting that more prominent organ melody from the SNES version.
That and the song that plays when you find Chester II just sounds like a complete garbled mess with the X68k and PC88 versions

I still say Falcom completely blew a great opportunity when they didn't include Descendant of Genos for that fight in the PSP version. Yeah, they'd have to PC88 and X6800-ify it if they wanted seamless soundtrack swapping but I say that's a small price to pay for the most appropriate damn song that fight could have. Sounds way better than Chop too...

Hey man, don't you hate on Chop! Chop is the best boss theme in the game easily.
It does sound like garbage if you switch to one of the other versions though.

All 3, first playthrough was standard, now I'm on PC88 and then when I go through again I'l do X68K or w/e it is.
Then on my other playthroughs to unlock everything (full gallery, etc) I'll alternate depending on the mood.

I'm just waiting a save with the full gallery somewhere. I beat Inferno, Inferno Boss Rush and both optional bosses, so I'm done. I'm not gonna bore myself with Very Easy just because of Falcom's stupid design decision.

Oath in Felghana probably overall has the worst boss themes in the entire series. Chop! is probably my favorite next to The Strongest Foe, though.

Fellas~ Fellas~ Don't you see~? It doesn't matter which version of the Sound Track you use, or which boss theme you love~ None of them have Mighty Obstacle, so none of them are the correct choice! : D
...Yeah, don't worry I'm just kidding~ (I'm totally not.)

Yeah, I wasn't really impressed with the boss themes in general.

But at least it has extremely awesome dungeon themes. Even worse than... Behold? Uhh... didn't he? I mean, as far as I know, he did all the arrangements for Ys I-III on the TurboGrafx-16... -Tom I mean like... well, Yonemitsu was amazing doing Dawn of Ys' music, but Ys I-III's weren't nearly as good. I mean, if he used the amazing effort he put into Dawn of Ys' and applied that to I-III.

Behold! is just a pretty crappy song in general. I'm sure they could've found a much better boss theme to use for Garland. D:
And yeah, the arranging for Dawn of Ys was just... love. I'm still trying to figure out what on the soundtrack was synthesized and what wasn't. That... damn guitar in Valley of Quicksand was just love.

Eh, Behold! was decent. About as good as The Strongest Foe, which is an equally mediocre song.

Yeah, I'm pretty alone in not liking The Strongest Foe. My least favorite final boss music in the series, EASILY. Also one of my least favorite boss songs in general, it's extremely bland and boring for me to listen to.
You may now squirm in shock and horror.
