Wow, Thanks everyone. Wasn't sure what people were going to think. Truth is, the game is done. I'll try to get it out the door later today and uploaded to
www.yoyogames.com. There are some slight issues. I was shooting for New Years but I'll try hard today.
I made this so I could teach myself a little about the genre. I love these games. Then the dream got a little out of control. The official title is Final Fantasy IV Smiles -Shinai Akushon No Taipu(Not RPG Type). Not sure if that title is even the right way to say it. I pulled it off google translate:)
Final Fantasy IV Smiles covers the beginning of the original game. It ends on Mt. Ordeals when Cecil becomes a paladin. so you play the game as Dark Knight Cecil.
A quick note about the intro:
During part1 of the intro, which also has the Title screen, the player can press ENTER at anytime to go straight to Level 1. However, by watching the entire Intro it will then take the player to the hidden EXTRA stage and then a hidden Extra boss.(not really hidden, you just have to watch the intro to get there.)
So if you watch these vids, you will notice a difficulty spike in the Intro part 2 vid. That is the Extra stage, so it is much harder than Level 1. Level 1 is pretty easy.
The Intro(part 1) is a dream Cecil is having. The Intro(part 2) is the playable stage and an extension of that dream.
Level 1 starts on the airship while on the return trip from Mysidia, just like the original game.
All cutscenes in the game can be skipped.
Sorry, you can't save anywhere. This is a very simple game(hesitation to say this, you should see the 50 note pages of debug).
The Rules:
3 Lives. Once all 3 Lives are gone, you restart the level and EXP or score goes back to 0.
Each Life has an Energy Bar- you can take a couple of hits.
Each Life can summon Odin up to 3 times.
That's a lotta ammo for a shmup. I did not want to make this game impossible.
When you start a new Level, your weapon power level will go back to 1. You will see that in the vids. I made the stages with this in mind. Later stages actually start with a power up. This keeps the same experience for every stage intact, even if you die and have to restart a level.

Enjoy the vids.
