To me, the DS port of FFIV, while at least not a milking port, felt unneccessarily unfun with all of the countering enemies. Maybe i just didn't grind enough, but I always felt attacking enemies at all, magic, summons, ect, was just another way to get killed.
Its less glitchy than the GBA port, but the GBA port has Palom and Porom endgame, so...
After years urned my hatred because of the section where you control Kain on Mount Ordeals. One character. Two snake enemies who can paralyze.
I was killed before I could do ANYTHING. Only bought two parts.

Blargh. Completely forgot about other stores that may have carried the Ultimate Edition or whatever. Now I'm stuck waiting for Play-Asia to start taking orders.
However, with my luck, I'll miss out and all the pre-order slots will be filled by the time I find out about it. >_>

Ok, time for my input, I guess. I'm going to buy this, even though I've played FFIV at least 5 times and am really kind of tired of playing it. Most of why I'm going to get it because I've been in love with the nifty almost HD 2D sprites they used in the FF1 and 2 ports, and because I need a portable excuse to finish the After Years. That said, I would MUCH rather see FFV get this PSP treatment. It's a cool game with a neat story and villain, a job system, and total "cool story bro" shenanigans. And Gilgamesh. FFVI should immediately follow.
Just so you know, Yakra, there's plenty of Kain to go around in After Years. In fact, you pretty much get everybody, plus new characters, so there's plenty of character love to go around. As far as the DS version goes, I thought the character models were mind-meltingly adorable, the voice acting was fairly neat, and the new bonus features were ok. What I didn't like was the stupid difficulty increase. I mean, it was enough to just bring the difficulty back in line with the Japanese SNES version, but they went past that, and it made it kind of a too much effort for a game I've played 4 times already kind of situation.
Last comment is this: I played the Japanese version of FFIV DS before it came out here. I was instantly amazed and awestruck to find that Tellah was voiced by Naya Goro, the voice of Inspector Zenigata from the Lupin the 3rd series! So if they put voices in the PSP version, I'm hoping for dual-audio, especially since they had room on the disc AND FF1 and 2 had full Japanese text as an option in it. However, I know none of this will actually happen.

I Already pre-ordered it on Amazon.ca the first chance I got. That's shows how much I sold my soul to Square as far as FFIV goes. ^^;;;;

No podria darte MAS razon de la que ya tenes (aunque Squaresoft tampoco me atrajo mucho... ¬¬") ¿Tenemos algunos hispanohablantes aquí? ¡impresionante! Anyway! As a life-long FFIV lover, I'll naturally be getting this. I've enjoyed every version of it that's come out so far, but it does kind of feel like it's being milked a little too much now... we need some more FFV and FFVI love, for sure. I got pretty far in The After Years on Wiiware, but with this announcement I decided to drop that for the PSP version when it comes out. Oh well, I was glad we got it either way.

I haven't played The After Years yet so this is a no-brainer for me.

I haven't played any version of FF4 yet, so, yeah, it's a no brainer for I as well. I have the PS1 & DS versions, I was too much into the Turbo back in the 16-bit days, so, I never bothered to pick up any FF's, though I did get into the Lufia's & Shadowrun on SNES(damn I wish they had made that sequal!), as well as Chrono Trigger & Mana. I didn't get any FF's till 7.

but...there isn't a limited edition for the game. D: Also, I agree, the DS version is a pretty rad version of this game, though a little on the hard side. I don't see the hate for it either.

I think... Europe is getting a LE version of this, ne? :'D I was just ogling at pretty pics of what look like the tarot cards that Tactics Ogre got and... reading about an interesting... Cecil screen wiper? :'D X'D Somehow that screen wipe thing is appealing to me the most. X'D Of all the things! But I want to see what it is~~~ :'D Ye can look at the pretty cards here too!Speaking of Tactics Ogre like tarot cards, I'm kind of really curious if any here grabbed the european LE of that and got the artbook. *wants to know what was in it!!!* But... this is a wrong thread to wonder that about in, ne? X'''D

No fair, Sqeenix! Why does Europe get some special edition loving and everyone else gets the bare bones regular edition! T-T

Also~ I kind of liked the voice acting in the DS version of FFIV. Infact, I kind of liked that one overall. It felt like a nice change, considering how much I'd overplayed and re-replayed the original 2D graphic-ed one. (Not that the DS version was great, great looking. :'D It just actually felt 'different'. Not just a 'same old SE-milky-port'.) Can I hug you, Yakra? I was beginning to feel so alone in my enjoyment of the DS version. So... about the Complete Collection... *SIGH* I'm buying this. I already know I will. I played some chapters of After Years and I know it does kind of suck, it's a grindy, second-verse-same-as-the-first rehash plot that feels like fanfiction (and not very good fanfiction, at times) ...but I will buy it. Because it's another iteration of FFIV, and it's portable- for the PSP. I love my PSP immensely. Damn you, Square. Why do you control my money? I liked the DS version. Hell, I ate up FFIII too.

D': I think a part of me just died inside... No fair, Sqeenix! Why does Europe get some special edition loving and everyone else gets the bare bones regular edition! T-T Because Europe was ignored and/or treated very badly by Square (and Enix) for over a decade? I'll swap you a Tactics Ogre and FFIV LE for domestic releases of FF4, FF6, Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest 7, Xenogears, Legend of Mana, Final Fantasy Tactics, Chocobo's Dungeon, Breath of Fire, Super Mario RPG, Einhander, Parasite Eve... etc, etc. Yakra - I've got it, I can take some photos if you'd like them?

You didn't get ANY of those? Damn, that's friggin harsh!
Turns out Squeenix were always jackasses, they just used to think that North America were the "cool kids."

Nope, not a one. Later on we did get things like the PS1/GBA ports of FF6, but some of the lustre's gone after waiting so long for it to arrive (and we had to wait for the DS port of Chrono Trigger before that had an official EU release!).

More like thank goodness for the internet! Back when I was a kid a Japanese game of absolutely any kind was a real treasure to be guarded and worshipped, now I can buy just about any game I can think of from anywhere on the planet with ease <3

Your insinuation that they no llonger are is quite thoroughly debunked by the intensity of my covetousness for your game shrine!
