imgur.com/eBVgb.jpgI thought you were never supposed to "hear" him talk? Did I catch a slight in the translation?

Yea, it's the American PS2 version. It's right after you give the mirror to Olha and talk to Isha. I think ... I know you talk to Isha about the dreams that she's been having and then when you go back to Olha she says she failed as a priestess and sister.
I also did the anime cheat. If that makes any difference.

This is a fresh one on me. I've never seen this. I know the scene in question, but it's always been in action text before. Not Adol expressly talking.

The bit about Adol not talking is more a general thing than a hard rule. He talked directly in Ys III though not Oath and for a more recent game he was extremely vocal in his chapter of Alt Saga's story mode (though in the other four it was back to ellipses and action text).

Wow I wish I could read Japanese. I know he got a good share of lines in Vs but don't know what any of them are about.

But yotaka is right, he talks his ass off in Ys vs Sora. He has many dialog choices and reminisces to the past more often than any other character. This makes him have the most dialog of the game! This is what I get for saving Adol's story mode for last. I thought it was silent as always throughout Ys vs SnK but now it turns out he's a Family Guy character! "Man Dogi, this is worse than that one time back in Felghana..." <cue manatee joke> Also when I recently replayed SNES Ys III on cart and I had forgot just how much Adol talks. I liked it better when he's not contemplating how much of a failure he is as an adventurer

Yeah here's the thing, as soon as characters get dialog they are set to narrative and we either like or dislike the character. I concur. Sometimes in other games you get a choice which sometimes allows different storyline paths, which is fine, but it's never what I would want my character to say or do.

At least they haven't taken to Super Mario RPG silent Adol, complete with transformations and pantomime

"Adol engages in interpretive dance to explain the situation"
Yeah that's right, the in-game sprites won't even show it. The narrator will just say that he is doing it and leave it at that

Add in the PSP's voice for it. Just imagine.
"Adol pranced around the meadow, holding out his hands as though they were the claws of a dragon."
