So far I am not impressed with this game....Is it me? Too many options?.....too many buttons?....Graphics don't compare to Felghana?....too much field?....too much talking?....I must be old school..... I'm not sure about the whole group thing either.....Adol does fine on his own!! It doesn't seem like Ys to me. I guess I'll continue and maybe I will like it more....music and bosses are nice however.

Like in most games of the genre, I felt the party members got in the way. I always controlled only Adol except when it was completely necessary to change, which after getting different weapon types, was never.
Fights with human sized enemies were especially annoying to me, cause there were too many people jumping around the screen for me to properly differentiate. I still loved the game, I just would have liked it better if Dogi and Geis would have hung back and watched.

Geis and Mishera are too awesome to hate. I liked playing as them more than Adol, personally. Actually, once you craft Adol's trump-all sword, it's depressing how the other characters literally become meaningless to use.

Adol only here. If Adol died I would immediately revive him no matter what, and if I couldn't revive him I would restart.

I think it was a good way to mix up the series a little, but I don't think I want the party system to come back anytime soon. I got to directly control Dogi and Geis, but once is enough.
I actually think the party system messed with the difficulty of the game. Bosses had to have a lot more HP than normal to make up for the multiple characters and reviving items... but I'd rather them be short and difficult, rather than fight for 10 minutes only to die because I'm too stubborn to use items.

That's probably one culprit of many. Seven made so many noticeable changes to the formula presented in VI and perfected in OiF and Origin that I would guess they may have had a hard time balancing everything out; from the party system, dramatically higher player health pools, the inclusion of all sorts of items to the introduction of the flash guard. Ultimately, I was able to beat the game with relative ease on Nightmare mode, which ... has always struck me as odd, seeing as I've never beaten a nightmare mode in the past. I don't think the party system is the full culprit here, though, seeing as if you cannot abuse the flash guard properly, you're probably not going to have such an easy time with the game. I will agree, though, imposing a no items rule on oneself is a nice way to fabricate difficulty! I tried my hand at it, and at that point it feels more like an classic Ys-difficulty game. I need to man up and finish that play through someday; Kevakeros is a HUGE roadblock at that point seeing as he has so much health and so many nasty moves.

I'm surprised I actually managed to beat Kava Kelos on my no-item Nightmare run.

If that's the goddam wind bird, then yes, he's a whore. I have to make sure I have the petrification-preventing item on everyone in the party so they don't get picked apart by him.

Oh I almost forgot.....no jumping!? just rolling.... sigh ...so much for the jump stab. I'll continue and play and see if I like it later.

Eh, I actually liked dashing. At least for being able to run around faster.

I like the dash a lot. It makes avoiding attacks during boss battles easier and somehow at the same time more intense. The jump spin and sword plant are both in the game still, they're just incorporated as skills rather than button combos.

I played it enough to know that you pretty much never have to jump in Ys vs SnK, anyways. Which is good, because it's cumbersome. I like the game well enough, but - and maybe I just SUCK, who knows - I could not coordinate jumping and dashing in any effective manner.

This IS a game I havent played yet, but I can't resist this joke... You just need to tap jump, then dash a second later, then the direction...

The jumping in Alternative Saga feels similar to the jumping in the Napishtim engine Ys titles, I think. It does feel a little odd in terms of how far you jump and the velocity, but otherwise I think it's very fun airdashing all over the place and leaving mines with Geis, etc.
Also, you often need to jump for the Galsis battle, depending on character.

While I used the hell outta the dash button (wasn't even aware of flash guard) I greatly disliked the lack of an ability to jump, and found it a poor substituion.
