Ok, so I'm playing Ys I on the TG16, and just for fun I've plugged the iPad up to the stereo and am using it to play songs from the Chronicles OST over the game's actual OST. My questions are 1) Does this make me a complete and total dork? 2) How many of you use different versions of the OSTs when playing an Ys game?
I played I and II Eternal with both the TG16 replacement OST and Chronicles OST, and in Felghana I listened to all the alternate song versions and even prefered the MSX songs in a few places.

Interesting idea, mostly use these tricks on XBox games...but went through Nightwolve's midi variations for Ys II.

Generally speaking, I almost always play games with the BGM turned off, playing my own music instead.
It's a little dorky, but only to people who can't understand music addicts.

I've had fun doing this a number of times, usually just to hear the TG 16 music in modern Ys games. There were a couple exceptions where I used different music altogether: 1. A-ha's "Take on Me" in YsF, and 2. Using the Lagoon SNES shop theme in YsF.

I haven't done it much but I'm considering messing around with Origin to insert some SAV and Chronicles songs in place of the originals. Might also do something similar with Sora no Kiseki FC one of these days.

Actually, I did replace a few of the .ogg files in Origin with songs of my own choice, although I never figured out where to set the loop points.
Maybe I'll try it again eventually.

That was one of the coolest things about GTA Vice City on the PC, you could put your own mp3s in a special folder, and the game would make an in-game radio station out of them.
I usually don't replace a game's OST with completely different music, although I've done it a few times. MMOs for one...the only way I managed to play WoW for two months was with Ys music. Also, I have a special playlist of Castlevania music for whem I'm playing Demon's Souls. One time I played all of lower Norfair in the original Metroid using Led Zeppelin's Achilles Last Stand on repeat. That was actually pretty cool.

I used the Saturn version of the Solomon Shrine track on... Eternal, I think, can't quite remember. Apart from a slight looping issue it was ok. I generally don't do it because there's usually a theme to all the music in any particular game that would be broken by doing that, but it worked.
