So, I was soundly surprised this afternoon to find that we not only got a Virtual Console release this week, but that it was Faxanadu! I'm going to buy it partly out of support, and partly because I just want to play it. Will anyone else be getting it?

Pff! Hell yes I'll be getting this! I had no idea that they had released it for VC. I've just downloaded it. : )
I have it already as complete in box for NES and Famicom and one loose nes cart extra floating around, but having it accessible on the Wii makes it much easier to setup for some "Fastxanadu" action!

Oh man, this takes me back... Having the king give you 1500 "golds", walking into town and spending ALL of it, then returning to the King with empty pockets to get a refill of "golds". : ) Good times.

That gibberish that the guru spouts off is your password for continuing the game. It was always a pain to have to write it down and re-enter it when you want to play again. Fortunately, with WiiWare, all one needs to do is to hit the HOME button and exit the game and it will pick up the snapshot of exactly where you were when you left off, as though you hit the pause button.
"Well that's all good Thomas, but what if I die during battle!? Won't I be screwed if I haven't been logging passwords?"
No that's be beauty of Faxanadu, in that it will teleport you back to the nearest Guru, or was it the last one you spoke with... I can't remember. You might lose some things like gold, but your items should still be equipped and in your inventory so. : ) It has been awhile since I last finished the game.

Ah, ok, nice of it to tell me that. I thought it was just incoherent meditation babble.

Wasn't it possible for Faxanadu to actually give you invalid passwords near the end of the game? I'll pick this up when I have some extra Wii Points. I'm at 0 right now. Though I will miss the Wii port of FCE Ultra being able to speed up emulation to get by the slow scrolling text...

True story, the cashier talked my mom out of buying me this game at Kay Bee Toys back when it first came out. Said it would be too hard for a kid my age. I think it's about time I played it, just to see how wrong he probably was!

If she had, you would have been exposed too soon to a world of awesomeness... traveling to the beat of catchy chiptune music, fighting for your life in battles with enemies that have surrounded you with little to no life left in a rush to get new equipment and items and to solve just one more puzzle and explore just one more room before having to go to bed and get up for school the next day, as well as smoking and drinking references. It would have changed your life! : 0 Man, sure sounds a lot like Demon's Souls actually and well... Xanadu. : ) Imagine that. -Thomas

Now, if I can finally play Faxanadu my destiny will be completed... or I'll just get to play a cool game I missed out on, either or. By the way, the Xanadu hero is one of the most badass heroes ever, I love the art style of that game. I mean, you can sorta see part of the heroine's butt on the cover!

Just finished it. That was a refreshing experience. Not too long, not too short and just enough challenge to make it fun without being frustrating. I had forgotten that the DragonSlayer was in this game as well as in the other Xanadu franchises.
Good luck if you do start playing it Kamiwoo. I've actually got Demon's Souls, Collectors Edition of it even because I just know that I'm going to love the hell out of that game, but sadly, my wife and I have had other expenses to pay for and a PS3 hasn't quite entered that picture yet. The day I get it though is the day I take off work the next day to play some mad Demon's Souls action. This darker, medieval fantasy type action-rpg where it can be tough as nails at times but rewarding at others with interspersed equipment is the kind of stuff I live to play. It really draws me in, so it's only natural that I would flock to the original Xanadu too. Not sure when it is going to be released, but Xanadu Next is also on the translation block, though I'm unsure of the current progress on that, but it is something to look forward to!
