Ok everyone, pick ONE song and only ONE song from the ENTIRE Ys game series. What's your favorite?
I'm gonna have to go with The Boy Had Wings from Ys3.
But then again I dunno, this is a really tough decision! Several others could claim this crown...

"Be Careful" in YsIII/OiF. I always find an excuse to rock out to the Genesis and OiF versions in my car. I think I've gotten stopped for speeding while playing it

Subterranean Canal, specifically the TG16/PC Engine Version.

It is a wee bit hard picking just one track buuuut~~~
Ultramarine Deep from Ys VI~ <3 Unlike all the other awesome tracks, I somehow never ever tire of this, even if it has been on loop for long. :'D
(Though.... it's odd similar version from the Alma's Trials could easily be the best track ever for me too..... It never got released in any listenable format outside the PSP version [and I'm assuming, PS2 too] itself though, ne?)

I can't decide.
I have minimally 10-ish favourites.

Termination has always been my favorite Ys theme. It's just an all-around excellent and epic sounding theme in general, but for a final boss battle, it really sounds like a radiant struggle for a hero to stand tall and put everything on the line for a shot at total victory. The versions of this song are plentiful and each sound a bit unique to the version of Ys they belong to and when it couldn't possibly sound any more awesome, Origin made it even more epic and completely different than all of the other versions, while Chronicles seemed to perfect it with electric guitar.

Hmmm....Mighty Obstacle from Ys VI has been my favorite for a long time. Now my favorite is Termination, from Ys Origin final boss playing with Thor

Subterranean Canal, specifically the TG16/PC Engine Version. Nice, I like every song from the PC Engine version. Palace of Solomon TG16/PC Engine version. I remember really enjoying that song as a kid.

This is slightly less painful than asking me to pick my one favorite Legend of Heroes track but it's still really hard to narrow it down. In the end I'd have to go with Walking the Path of Legend (Perfect Collection version), with Valestein Castle (OiF version), Mighty Obstacle and Legend of the Five Great Dragons (OST version) very close behind.

Oath in Felghana version of The Strongest Foe
Maybe because it was my first Ys, but the Ys III music just sticks out more than any other. Genesis Beyond the Beginning and Seal of Time are close though

These days I'd say it's Over Drive (Origin version).
Funny enough I don't think I appreciated just how difficult that was to play until I watched the webcast for the 2010 JDK concert when they flubbed it.
Previously it would've been Termination, The Strongest Foe, and The Depth Napishtim, in no particular order.

"Ernst" from Ys VI for me. Although I'm really fond of "Mighty Obstacle" from VI and "The Boy Had Wings" from III too...

With no qualifications? That's nigh-on impossible. I hardly consider stage themes, battle themes, and all the other junk comparable enough...I mean, we're comparing Termination with Raud's theme. I'm going to break the rules and choose a battle theme separately from a stage theme. As far as battles go, Scars of the Divine Wing is mine. I didn't think anything, let alone another Ys game, would dethrone Mighty Obstacle, but this one did it for me. Stage themes. Oh, brother. I have two that constantly butt heads, The Sacred Wind and Silent Desert. Since I have to pick one, I'm basing it off of how fast I realized it was awesome. Going with The Sacred Wind because I liked it when I played the stage, whereas I didn't pay much attention to Silent Desert while I was there...but that may have been because it was just that good that I forgot about it. I dunno. Legend of the Five Great Dragons (OST version) very close behind. There's more than one version?!

Ys III on SNES was my first Ys game, so for the longest time Valestein Castle was my favorite song. However, the first time I heard the "Vacant Interference" boss theme in Ys Seven, I was hooked. I pop this on my iPod anytime I need something upbeat, be it washing dishes, working out, or just playing Fruit Ninja.

Yeah, they released an arranged version of it on a recent JDK Band album. It's quite good. -Tom Second! Didn't that version catch some flack though? I remember people saying it's not as good as the in-game version. I think it's amazing! www.youtube.com/watch?v=lb_OTx6i5M8

I'm not the biggest fan of the original song, but that's a pretty great remix.
...Also, listening to JDK Band songs makes me want to learn violin. (And join up with a "normal" band to write and play Falcom-y songs.)

I like the original a bit better (which is all it takes when you're asked to pick the best Ys songs ever), though for the most part it's a very nice arrangement. I'll be looking forward to hearing a second rearrangement for the multiplat version, assuming they don't reuse the Sumer 2010 versions for those songs a la SnK using music from the SAV in SC and 3rd. Be nice if they also added a proper Moon Temple and Sanctum and composed new tracks for them but that's neither here nor there.

Be nice if they also added a proper Moon Temple and Sanctum and composed new tracks for them but that's neither here nor there. Not so sure about that...I was disappointed there was no Moon Sanctum theme, myself (I don't care how small the Sanctum itself is!), but having a "Moon Temple" could be a bit of a problem plotwise considering the adventure essentially begins with investigation of the relatively harmless shrine. Besides, I suppose the Well of Souls is your Moon Sanctum. The first part of it with the lost Iskan city and the lasers or whatever seems to qualify. Might be remembering some of the details incorrectly...
