This damned new DSi region locking is rather annoying, as there are a few games I want to buy that won't work on my EU DSi I want a flashcard as it'll be cheaper than buying an original DS or DS Lite (I'll still buy the games, the flashcart is just to workaround the region locking) but there seems to be a ton of them and I've not really got any idea what to buy. Kimimi's Flashcard Wants List - DSi compatible (essential) 3DS compatible (should I upgrade, non-essential) Upgradeable/active dev community (to counteract any Nintendo shenanigans) Reliable/good build quality I've been leaning towards the M3i Zero, as that appears to have everything I'm after but I'd appreciate input from anyone with more experience! What I'm not after - ROMs, piracy talk and similar - this topic is *exclusively* about the abilities of the flashcards themselves, not what people put on them.

From what I remember... Supercard DSTWO is chock full of extra features including self-sustainable GBA emulation CycloDS iEvolution apparently has DSi enhanced game compatibility but is expensive compared to the others Acekard 2i is a low-cost no frills card that works well (use AKAIO firmware)
I don't know jack about 3DS compatibility

I have heard CycloDS ones are the best, but as psybuster pointed out, they are more expensive.

I used to use CycloDS, but found that once the DSi's came out, my CycloDS was not compatible anymore. Before that, I used SuperCard SD for Slot 2 which was a pretty huge pain the in butt.
These days I use the Acekard 2i on my DSi XL, which works like a charm for most things you might run, including emulators... Only I have yet to get my MSX or WonderSwan color emus to work correctly... The interface is quite nice as well.
Also, I may have an extra Cyclo DS cart sitting around, but again, it's not compatible with DSi.

I was going to get an R4 with a Kingston miniSD, but that didn't pan out -- I had to fight tooth and nail to escape the Addams Family, so obviously I gave up my ex-birthday-gifts in the process. I luckily have a classic DS, I'd love to have a CycloDS.

I use Acekard 2i as well for the DSi XL.
I also have an EDGE something or rather but I ditched it once I got the XL due to compatibility reasons. Not sure if upgrading the card firmware would have helped. Regardless, the Acekard 2i is pretty spiffy! :D
And I think for the 3DS, the companies will be putting out a new card just for that. >_>

I use my Flashcards exclusively for piracy -- they power airships with which I plunder.
Oh, and breakfast. It is no good if it can't cook an egg.

Nunuu, have you encountered anything that wouldn't play on the AceKard - have you tried any DSi region locked games with it?

At this point pretty much every game is going to work on any of the flashcards. All that's really different is now long new AP in new games will affect you.
Acekard 2i is the best budget choice with frequent updates from the fan community. M3 Zeroi is a great card in general, and can use 4 different firmwares if need be.
Supercard DSTwo is the bells n whistles right now, with GBA emulation through slot 1, though I haven't personally experienced it.
My Cyclo works great on my DS but it isn't compatible with DSi. M3 zeroi also works well but sometimes I have to patch newer releases to work. I got an Acekard for a friend and it also works very well, though he's managed to find some issue with it. I think because he carries his DS carts in his pockets all the time.
Really it depends on which one you want to buy really, they'll all work

Nunuu, have you encountered anything that wouldn't play on the AceKard - have you tried any DSi region locked games with it? Erp. Nay, I only play the stuff that's released on carts. :/ But I think cronorei's right -- it's probably pretty easy to get ANYTHING to work on these kind of flashcards these days. Anything that does work now will eventually get patched or you can find instructions to patch the games yourself. There WAS an issue once where I did a firmware upgrade on the DSi XL which caused the Acekard 2i to ... not work with it after. I solved it by upgrading the flashcard's FW on my DS Lite. :3

Thank you! I was worried that as it seemed to be the budget options I'd come across some problems with it - it's nice to be wrong ^^~

I can pretty much agree the acecard2 i is a great call. also, CYCLODS has discontinued their support officially, so that's not a good thing.
Beware buying any R4 cards, as there are tons of clones out there. I bought one, and got a clone. Tons of issues, and incompatibility with the wood firmware, which is why i got it in the first place. I'd love a cyclo ds though if someone has one to spare. I'd use it on a ds lite.

Got a R4, but not using it due to DSi Broke (bought it used) and I plan on going Legit with 3DS... I do plan on getting another DSi for those precious "test plays" to make sure which game is worth buying...

Acekard 2i - low cost, high compatibility, SDHC support, anti-clone authentication, official firmware regularly updated & an unofficial firmware community exists too [AKAIO].
Personally I've got a very outdated official R4DS, which I use Wood R4 firmware with. [The lady I bought my DSlite from gave me it, seriously.] I do NOT recommend anyone buy an R4 card. There's too many different clones, poor official firmware support from nearly every group selling any card calling itself 'R4' and the real R4DS does not support SDHC.
