Sorry that this has been bugging me so much, but I just have to get it out of my system. Capcom, once upon a time, was my favorite Japanese 3rd party and I feel their legacy speaks for itself (Street Fighter, Mega Man, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil...etc.). But this summer has been the Summer of Stupid for them.
I mean, you piss off people by canning a project you wanted to actively involve them in (MML3), you try to implement DRM into cartridge-based games (RE: Merecenaries), you announce an updated, DISC-BASED version of a game released barely half a year ago (UMVC3), and you don't even include a version of your mascot in there...
Not to mention on-disc DLC, diving head-first into a reboot of DMC that has an awful new design for Dante, releasing a half-arsed "update" to Street Fighter IV as both DLC and on a disc...man, it goes on.
I wonder if the company is at the point where only something so drastic as a major management shakeup (especially in the face of Inafune's departure) couldn't save things. What scares me is that they're being arrogant and not listening to their fans...which is ironic since they used to be ALL ABOUT doing for the fans. Strange thing is that this is exactly how Sega screwed themselves over, by not listening to the people buying their stuff. Now they're, well...yeah.
Oi, Capcom!

Hm, about Mega Man not being on MVC3, I just wanted to point out that he also wasn't in Capcom vs. SNK and its sequel, or SVS Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom (in which Zero from MMZ was in), so... what they did on MVC3 wasn't all that new... (but yeah, I get the point, especially since he was in it in MVC and MVC2).
All that aside, I agree, and I think most people here do, as well. But I haven't been expecting thaaaaat much from them lately as well...

I have ended an over 20+ year relationship as a gamer with capcom. MML3 was the last straw after Bionic C. 2009. DmC.

As far as the regular disc-based updates go - is anyone really surprised? We used to pay £60 a time for Street Fighter II, then Champion Edition, then Hyper Fighting, then Super... this isn't a new tactic.

zomg my favorite character wasn't in a vs. game isn't a decent reason to hate on Capcom. Their incessant re-releases of fighting games with balance tweaks is annoying but something they have done since time immemorial. Street Fighter II/Championship Edition/Turbo/Hyper Fighting/Super/Super Turbo/Super Turbo HDR ring a bell? Not being able to delete a saved game is nothing new. Some old cart games with battery backup didn't let you do it. Knights in the Nightmare DS doesn't let you clear the memory. I dunno why Capcom was singled out for this... also, not like the game was a good game at all.. <_< I have nothing really to say about MML3 since I'm not an MML fan.

Not a Classic Mega Man fan either? They did cancel Mega Man Universe prior to cancelling MML3, too, y'know.

If you saw it that way, isn't that another reason to expect less from Capcom?

Thanks to being a long standing Sega fan, I don't expect anything from any game company anymore... <_<

As far as the regular disc-based updates go - is anyone really surprised? We used to pay £60 a time for Street Fighter II, then Champion Edition, then Hyper Fighting, then Super... this isn't a new tactic. Times have changed. The internet now exists for people to openly express their opinions. People didn't like it back then either, it's just that they couldn't show it to millions of people. zomg my favorite character wasn't in a vs. game isn't a decent reason to hate on Capcom. Not so much whining that a favorite character wasn't in the game, but seriously leaving out the character who was once considered to be their company mascot is a real mystery. On top of that, flat-out lying and saying there wasn't enough fan demand for the character (when the polls on Capcom's own forums proved otherwise) is a real kick to the teeth. Furthermore, I love how they claimed that Mega Man "has no good moves" when he was already in the previous MvC... and now we're getting Phoenix Wright in the game. So what they are basically trying to tell us is, Phoenix Wright has better moves than Mega Man for a fighting game. Now, I am a huge fan of Wright, but come on, Capcom. Also, I am still bitter that CoA refuses to release Ace Attorney Investigations 2 in the West.

Agreed. I am excited for Wright, but I'm extremely against Capcom's business plans these days.
Balance and tweaks can be applied through updates these days, adding 10 new characters and extra modes and stuff might be a little tough through online but still come on, fighting games do not have the market to be re-releasing a new version within the same year as the original at almost full retail price.
That's strike 1 Capcom.
Strike 2 was cancelling Megaman Legends 3 after going out of their way to involve the community and really building up people's hopes. That was just pointless. They didn't even release the demo version to get peoples opinions and really give it a chance before pulling the plug.
Not believing in your developers and fans? Real nice, Capcom.
Strike 3 was a little more subtle, and many people don't actually realize it yet but... MMU and MML3 were the last Megaman games in production. Megaman 10 didn't do as well as Megaman 9, Megaman X ended with 8, there are no plans to even start on X9, Zero finished, Legends got canned, Battle Network and Starforce finished... that's it.
They're shelving the blue bomber, the refusal to put him in MVC3's update also pushes the idea that he's being quietly retired.
Me and Capcom are done, unless it's Breath of Fire or Megaman related.

Randomness: I just recalled Capcom also cancelled their GB/GBC Rockman games compilation for the GBA. (Mega Man Mania)
It would have ruled.

I know. I wish Mega Man Mania were released, because I missed the 5 GB games. :/ I tried coloring the original GB game myself, but it didn't work out -- the coloring program I used was too buggy.

Those 5 were among my favorite classic Mega Man games. The 5th one in particular, especially for including all the exclusive bosses of the GB Mega Man games in the very end (Enker and company).

It was canceled because the devs working on it lost key assets (source code, I believe) that Capcom had loaned them Hey Nintendo, 3DS eShop has Gameboy games available for the Virtual Console nudge nudge. I'd like Wily's Revenge, IV, and V again
