Now that some of the initial giddiness has died down and we've had time to think about this, what's everyone hoping to see in this game? Here are my thoughts. - My first and foremost wish has already been met: Badass Karna. Maybe she won't be the kill-stealer she was in Dawn of Ys (unless they give her a huge level boost in her first appearance for fun) but she'll be cool. - More plot-based equipment. It was interesting how Seven added a lot of variety but it would be nice if some of the gear was actually relevent to the story and was gained through a process other than grinding mooks for rare synthesis items. No, a final weapon that requires the Eye of the Earth/Moon/Sun to synthesize doesn't count. I suppose that with both Mask and Dawn having such gear it'll probably happen. - While it's unlikely, if they could find a way to work the Clearia gear and the Hero gear into the game, it would be sweet. Maybe make the former the strongest gear while the latter is what you need to fight the final boss, old-school style? - Lefance's disciples, let's do something cool with them instead of making them background like Mask of the Sun. In my ideal world, they would have their own associated equipment (one of the few genuinely good ideas A New Theory had) which would serve as the plot-relevent gear for your allies. Say, Torie could have a sword and armor for Karna. Slipping into fantasy for a second, this would involve a small but challenging dungeon per disciple that you would have to solo with the character who could use the gear, culminating in a battle against the spirit of the disciple to prove your worthiness. - A one on one fight between Adol and Guruda to recreate the epic feel of Oath in Felghana's duels with Chester. They could feel free to give it a special music track too. Mysterious Moment could work well if they rearranged it and we'd finally get it in a game. - Genuinely hard optional bosses that require skill, not grinding. They could make that nightmare centaur thing from Minea Plains one if it's not in the main game, or the Ice Immurer...

...for it to be released in English somewhere on this Earth. That's probably my only real hope, but it's a doozy.

I think the former is a really good idea, too, but we will have to wait and see. I don't know what to expect from it... It already seems to feature all I could possibly ask Falcom for. Though one thing sort of does come to mind... Co-op multiplayer? I heard that had been planned or considered for Ys SEVEN, but that they were only able to implement something of the kind in Ys vs. SnK. Hmmm.... I guess what I DO hope for is that it won't have some feature exclusive to the 3G version of PSVita. That'd bug me.

I would loooove co-op play. ^_^ Except for that, hm... About the only hope that I have is that I actually get around to playing at least one of the original games before the remake is released. :'D *bad Ys fan*

I also hope they're able to get all the rights to Ryo Yonemitsu's Dawn of Ys tracks, and include them as a selectable soundtrack during play.

I'm listening to Dawn of Ys music right now... and I think I've figured out what my biggest hope is for this remake: that Falcom retains all the female falsetto vocals when they newly arrange tracks like "Sacred Castle" and "Temptation of the Fool." The latter is one of my favorite tracks in the game, and the Star Trek TOS-like falsetto vocals are a big reason why. Actually, I kinda hope that the new arrangements retain a lot of what Yonemitsu added to them -- a bit more jazz, a bit less pure rock. I don't want another Ys I & II Chronicles, where every track becomes pure rock even if it originally wasn't... so I guess I'm just kinda hoping for more musical diversity in general. I also hope they're able to get all the rights to Ryo Yonemitsu's Dawn of Ys tracks, and include them as a selectable soundtrack during play. -Tom Wyrdwad read my mind!

Oooh, Ryo Yonemitsu tracks as an option would be awesome. And yeah, rock where appropriate only. Stuff like Bronze District and Crimson Wings should not sound the same as Walking the Path of Legend.

I may be alone in this, but I would really did some voicework. The only thing I really wished was in Seven honestly was voices, as it would have helped connect to the cast that occasionally suffered from being kinda flat.

Besides keeping and revamping (see: not 80% rock) the sexy OST of Dawn of Ys, I just hope Garuda, Gadis, Bami and maybe even Eldeel return. While the former may not happen due to rights to music and all, I would hate for the dynamic trio to be written out of canon since they were fairly interesting considering the series never really had such villains like them before or since.
And even though those Ys Seven bosses weren't built for it, I would like to see the return of a proper Time Attack mode.

Don't see why any of those 4 would be left out. They appeared on both games. Karna did too, and Karna's already on this remake.

Oh, they were on Taito's Ys IV too, so that definitely won't be an issue.

I don't see why the trio and Eldeel wouldn't return. They were in the script Falcom sent out to Tokinhouse and Hudson (meaning they came up with the characters) so they'll still be present here, perhaps in somewhat different roles but still present. To omit something that basic would kind of moot the point of remaking IV to begin with.
Also, yeah, really hoping there's a boss rush feature of some sort. There's a couple of ways they could tweak Seven's system to make it work, we'll just have to wait and see if they've done it.

I would also like to see voice work make a return in some capacity. I loved Seven, but I felt voices could have really helped during the long dialogue sequences.
Given that they added substantially more voice to Ao no Kiseki, I see it being a possibility.

I think I'm officially the only person who thinks that most games are better off WITHOUT voice.
Why in my day, Link didn't have a voice. Hell, he didn't even talk! Growing up with old school RPGs, and being an avid reader, I'm used to the voices in my head accompanying the text *insane cackle* and most games that use voice inevitably have AT LEAST one bad actor/actress, which ruins the effect for me.
For games with cinematics, yeah, voice is a must. But if there's a text bubble anyway, I've always thought the voice was a nuisance, as it talks slower than I read, and yet I don't want to cut it off mid-sentence.

I do agree with this, usually (I'm not THAT much bothered by them, though). Voices are incredible though when there's no text for it (aside subtitles for those that need them), which is why voiced bits in the Ys PC Engine games are great! *got all Ys Book I & II ones memorized for ages now*
