I guess I should ask before installing the patch and possibly having to restart the process again: where exactly do I install the Extra Disc too? I've launched the installer I defaulted the install to the Ys Origin folder that the Groupon version makes for the game install. An empty folder named "FALCOM" was made, but I'm unsure if any other files were installed to their proper places. If that was right then I guess I'll continue with the rest of it and see what's what.

If you applied the extra disc's patch properly, your game executable (.exe) will say "1.1.0.0" as its version in its Properties. You'll also have two extra files somewhere in your game folder(s) called "data1100.na" or something like that.
Or instead, you can just open the game in Japanese (no applocale or anything needed for that much) and check if you have up to 5 difficulty settings to choose to upon picking a character to start a new game. (The patch adds the "Very Easy" and "Nightmare" difficulty settings, aside other things as well.)

Andante the easiest way to do it is just copy the Ys0_win folder from the extra disc and copy it over, or merge it with, the Ys0_win folder from the origin installation.

I had to do that, personally. So I can attest to that.
I did so though only because I saw I didn't have the extra difficulty settings first.

Well, I tried the entire installing process in a few ways without any positive results. The last thing I've done was take your advice and merge the 2 folders from the game install and extra disc, and then installing the English patch. I've been at this screen for awhile now, unsure of what the message is exactly saying about the Disc. Ever since I began trying to install everything, even the first time when I didn't install the extra disc, I had always had the Very Easy and Nightmare difficulties available. I've been able to launch the game with Japanese text, but otherwise I've just ended up with the random C's and symbols. Just to make sure, the extra disc and English patch are supposed to install to the Release folder, correct?

English patch has to be installed in the root folder not in the "release" one. Unfortuntaley even if the patch installer detects the game version and try to get the proper game installation folder, due to the several differences of the windows version s( 32 bit reg entries are different from the 64 bit ones), sometimes the installation path is blank. In that case you have to manually select the installation path by pointing to the YSO_WIN folder and not to the RELEASE one.

Ah, alright. I had merged folders and installed to the root folder on separate occasions, but never together xD. It looks like it's all working now, though I can't play at the moment. Again thanks so much, for the help and especially for the patch.

If you hold the Jump/Cancel button to skip the dialogue before the final boss in Yunica's story, the game will get stuck and you'll have to restart the program. Here's a screenshot.

I think that this bug is initial so it's unlikely to be fixed.

I have no idea if you guys can help me out, but I'm experiencing some odd stuff with the game. When I started the game as the girl, it was all fine and dandy until the camera zoomed in. What I assume was supposed to happen was she was supposed to get up, but as the camera zoomed in, the game suddenly closed. This has happened every occasion I've tried to play the game.
I'm using Windows 7, if that helps.

Your game is likely trying to display Japanese text, I think. And I think your computer isn't set to Japanese mode, nor do I think you had applocale on.
This means you likely didn't apply the patch correctly: Are you certain you applied it to the right directory? (This may sound like a silly question, but there have been some people that reportedly installed the patch onto the wrong folder.)
That's all the help I can offer right now.

Well, I did get the option menu in English...and the text right after the opening scenes seemed to be in English. I have done nothing to set my computer to display Japanese of any sort. Is that the issue? I noticed the characters describing the characters in the New Game selection were symbols, hence why I've only referred to the female character as a girl. I did initially try to install it to the wrong directory, could that also be it?

Do you have the extra disc installed? Do you have the groupon or club panasonic version of the game? Sounds like the main exe isn't patched.

Hm..reinstalling the game fixed it. I guess what I did was run an update file which updated the game beyond a point that the patch worked with?

That can't be the case: Many people, myself included, have updated their game to the latest version available (1.1.0.3, although version 1.1.1.0 is available for people who bought the Windows 7 version), and are playing on that. I personally have faced no technical problem thus far. Anyway, congratulations. Now have fun.

So, are there any differences between the three versions linked to in the downloadable file?

All 3 links point to the same file, it seems. The checksum confirmed it, which someone did.

Lemme leave a quick update. So, I just arrived at the game's last room, with Yunica on Nightmare. All monsters so far give no SP directly, and all the shards are worth 1 indeed. BUT! There's an exception! In the mirror maze, there are these small ball-like monsters, and either both or one of them sometimes drop this round, big SP shard. Well... That shard is worth 5. Not 1. *shot*
