I don't think the config file is the problem, it's the exe which is causing all the issues I find, certainly for the GroupOn version anyway.
Once the exe file is correct, the config will automatically translate properly.

I can verify that Turniphead is correct. In fact, if anybody is having ANY problem, from untranslated config, to in-game crashes, I suggest getting that EXE from Neogaf and trying it out. (though you should probably make a copy of the original just to be safe, of course) Oh, and Mr. Head, I think I forgot to say "thank you," before. I spent the whole day swapping EXEs and still getting failures before I saw your post. Also, Red, thank you for the instructional lecture. (You need to start an Ys class! ) If that's the case, I really see no reason why a link shouldn't be provided for everyone who needs it, or why it wouldn't be called appropriately by name. (although, you left out the where the Grouupon version falls in--which I assume is a hazy gray area in the patch's eyes?)

Hi guys I'm writin' here to thank all the users who are sendin' me infos and screens about typos and other bugs. Thank you guys..you're helpin' us very much.
On the other side I'm quite disappointed for the bahaviour of some users. After three years of hard work there is somebody who is able to criticize the hard work done. I really don' mind about them. I read some idiot comments about the Official Data Extra Disc or so on. As Red Hairdo and Wyrdwad pointed out Extra Disk is needed only by the users who bought the very first game version ( 1.00). Other users who have the WinXP DVD version ( released in 2007) and vista and Windows 7 didn't need that Extra Disk since it's already in the game. I read some fools talkin' about piracy... OMG, piracy? Only for the statement that Extra Disk is available on the net?it's free, released fro free. Just write to Falcom and give the game serial number and they will send Extra Disk for free. I didn't encourage to pirate the game. Please, be serious. Connect your brain before posting some useless, idiot things.I don't want to reply directly nor to refer to single users. And more... tot he ones who are writin' they'll wait for fixes since the patch is too buggy. Let me say that graphics are the same ones from two years ago..I didn't change nothing. I tested the game on both Win Xp and Win 7 OS and I didn't personally experienced any graphic or glitch trouble.
I didn't expect to find more overlapped strings by checkin' the main dump since I tested it deeply. Oh yes, there are some typos..ok..in a 2 MB long main script I think it's normal to have typos...even after some testing. They will be fixed.
Let me say one important thing... the game was tested with the resolution of 1024x768 and lines were splitted and balanced with that resolution. Because of the game strange way of scale text at different resolutions you may experience strings goin' out of bounds if you're playing at a lower resolution, and at widscreen resolution ( 16/9 or 16/10). it's not a patch related bug...but a game bug.
I personally experienced random crashes while testing over Win 7 32 and 64 bit edition...even the original game crashed. They are totally random... not patch related. On windows xp the game runs really fine.
It's clear... Ys was created over Win Xp, it's a 32 bit application... it's normal that it can crash over latest OS.
Well.. I'm really disappointed...after three years of hard work, blood, troubles and so on..we released origin translation for free and there are users able to criticize or to expatiate on some idiot things. You don't like the patch, please, don't use it, we won't die of sorrow for your decision. You don't like it...why don' you try to make your own patch instead of watin' one’s breath for idiot things.
I know this post will remind some old things...but some how I think that guy was sayin' the truth.
Despite there are many users who are grateful, happy and write thanks everywhere, there are some idiots who are able to waste all the passion, desire that move our amateur hobby.
Think about it guys... before wastin' time for writin' some useless and idiot things.. connect your brain, and be care thta it's well connected.
Bye

I've not been around all the forums, but I don't remember seeing anything really negative about the patch.
But this is the Internet and as they say, Haters gonna hate. People will complain about *anything*. Doesn't matter what.
I've been playing on Vista, with the original release, and I've not had a single crash thus far. It's been working great, and I'm loving it. Actually almost at the end with Hugo already, up on the 24th Floor. The main script is pretty well polished, some of the optional side-text seems like it could use a bit of polish, but overall, it's great.
This is also probably one of the highest profile translation releases for the year, at the very least, it's gonna draw some haters just because of that.
RE: the graphic glitches. If you're already running the game on japanese locale all the time, you'd never see them. It could even be Vista specific. It does seem there's at least one other Locale check in the .exe which is failing, that needs to be changed. It's not enough to make the game crash/shutdown, just stops some textures from displaying for some reason. Hence why AppLocale makes those work, and the info I've found seems to back that up.
Anyway, absolutely loving it. Thanks again to you and your whole team, you've done us all a great service, really!

Thank you very much Doppiapunta. turning the resolution down to 1024 x 768 fixed everything. even the Nygtigla texture glitch. I take my statement back. I'm playing this amazing game now. Thanks for all of you and your teams hard work.

Way to take the high road and not reply directly, by the way. I know that English isn't your first or best language, but if you reread a bit more carefully, and not assume offense a priori, you'll see I was just commenting that the majority of people who NEED the disk are unaware of it, and that it seems like a bit of a stretch to just say "figure it out on your own." No accusations. No offense intended. I just think the readme should have had everything that people have needed this thread to learn. Spamming insults is unnecessary. As for complaints about the patch, I haven't seen any; people are just reporting things to you. That's what you'd expect from an open beta. Even those who say they plan to wait for the final version aren't aiming to discourage--they simply don't want to take part in the beta, and prefer to await the final, finished patch. And as you said, you put years of blood, sweat, and tears into this project. Show some pride in it! There's no need to be defensive; what you've made here is fantastic, and only a step or two short of perfection.

Hey hey, it's alright. I don't believe anyone meant to offend you, Doppi. I admit, the piracy accusation was a bit much -- but look at who wrote it! You really shouldn't take what he says too seriously! As for everything else, typos, screenshots and bugs -- people are offering their criticisms, not because they want to offend you, but because they want to help you -- because we all have a passion for Ys, and would like to join together as a community to make sure that everything is in tip-top shape! As for those who would prefer to wait until there is an updated patch -- that's really all on them. They don't have to wait, but they choose to, and do you know why that is? It's because we all have faith in you, and Gho, and Deuce to produce an improved patch. I know it's difficult, and it's been a difficult three years for you and your team -- but there's always going to be room for improvement, no matter how experienced anyone is. Last, but not least, there's always going to be at least one person who will be overly critical about something. This isn't specific to fan translations, this has been going on since the dawn of time. Everyone finds something to complain about, at some point. That's moreso because everyone has their own tolerances, their own tastes, their own thoughts. It's like the saying goes "Opinions are like assholes. Everyone's got one." Just please don't take it too personally. We know you've worked very hard on this translation project, and we thank you very much for that!

JUst right-click over the game main executable and select proteries in the new window that will appear. Then selecte "details" and then you'll find the game version.

Snarflmonger and Hamster Sandwiches, you son of Rancor! But, D'etritus aside, THERE WAS NO PIRACY ACCUSATION! I flat out said that! Then I quoted it! Which is almost like saying it TWICE! I simply said I couldn't see any other logical reason it would be called by a different name, and be so tacitly passed over despite its importance(necessity). And, in a rare moment of seriousness, I TRULY do believe it should be provided in the readme, or with the patch, considering that importance. I mean, if somebody downloads the patch in two years, and has never heard of a "data disk" they'll go through the same rigamarole as everyone else, and have to search out this very thread to solve their problems. And depending on Karura's activity at the time, the thread may be two years dead!

Woah i hope thats not me that insulted your work, doppiapunta. I did say "good job guys" then "I'll wait for a patch update" which i hope didn't sound sarcastic... its not. With all the typos/bugs i've read here, I'll wait for an update or 2 before i start. I've waited since i finished Oath/Ark (whichever was last translated) so what's another couple of months? And i merely ask why the data disc wasn't called using the more known term "Extra disc". As for the graphics stuff, maybe that should have been explained in the readme? Anyway tnx to all the peeps who worked on this. Really appreciate the time you guys spent on working on this.

Dropping in to pay respects to doppiapunta, Deuce, Gho, and everyone else who had a hand in bringing this translation patch to light. And I never thanked you for your other patches too! Wonderful work.
I am going to try installing my 1.1.0.3 DVD to my Windows 7 machine tonight. I thought I saw a thread somewhere detailing the Win7 install process which involves manually copying a directory from DVD to hard drive, but maybe I am having a moment of boneheadedness and cannot find those instructions...
Thank you once again for your efforts doppiapunta & Co.!

I can attest to at least that no one meant to be offensive, doppi... And that everyone is BEYOND grateful for all your work on this most-awaited patch. Sorry if we somehow made you upset, though. None of us meant it...

I'm thoroughly enjoying it! I had no idea Yunica's opening conversation with the Roda Tree was so deep! Another cool thing is this laptop runs it better than my XP machine did. Currently I'm playing on normal, but still having a hard time defeating Nygtilger.

@ tohsaka You might need to replace your EXE file. What version is your game? You can get the correct EXE file from Neogaf Getting the Neogaf .exe fixed it, thanks a lot.
