Did anyone else notice how during the cut-scene where Toal Fact first gave Reah the silver harmonica... the name of the silver smith was Zalem. Now correct me if i'm wrong, but in Book II Complete I recall the name of the owner of the Armory in Ramia village to also be Zalem. Obviously they're not the same person due to the 700 year gap between events.. but i found it odd that they'd re-use a name like that.

That's probably the exact reason they re-used the name, to give another small link back to Ys II.
Also of note, I saw Doppiapunta's patch referred to Origin's Zalem as a male, but XSeed's as a female. Obviously the one in II is a female, but the name "Salem" (which "Zalem" likely is based on) sounds more like a male's name to me. I wonder which one is correct...?

I doubt Falcom really put that much thought into it but the Ys II character they're referencing is abundantly female so I'd default to assuming that. Nayuta also gives us the similar-sounding Selam who is definitely male though so who knows?
