MP83 had an idea today, to which I agreed: why not make a "help desk"-like thread for Ys Online?
It's a thread for everyone to ask whatever they don't understand or need help with in Ys Online.
It can be about Options, Gameplay, Quests, Races, Classes, Skills, Items, Enemies, Maps etc..
Using this opportunity, let me talk a bit about races and their classes.
----------------------------------------------------------------
In Ys Online, there are 3 races: Eresians (yeah, the koreans made it into a race), Afrocans (same here, they kinda look like Night Elves or something) and Kimos (some very warped idea of the Rehdas, except they are small and look like kids, and they switched a tail for a pair of cat ears).
With any race, you can basically become essentially any class as well. While each class is unique to its respective race (except starter ones, namewise), all races can offer the same kinds of jobs: Healer, Buffer, Tank, Damage Dealer, Sorcerers etc.. Typical to many MMORPGs. But very well-done.
Of course, though, each class has their unique features. Attacking mage classes, for example, can vary a lot: Eresians can eventually become a sorcerer with amazing AoEs, or a Warlock for even stronger single-target spells, while Afrocans have Necromancers (they summon stuff out of corpses) and the Kimos have an Elementalist (specializes on summoning one of the three creatures that Geis/Ernst have, although their names are different). In other words, mage Eresians focus a bit more on spells, while the other 2 more on summons. Likewise, rogue-like classes differ between the races: Kimo can specilialize on Bow OR dual-handed weapons, Afrocans specialize on dual-handed weapons purely, and Eresians specialize on one-handed daggers AND bow. It all varies.
Last, but not least, some skills are race-related, regardless of the class. At most some limit themselves between Fighter-type classes or Mage-type classes. (You pick one of those two classes when creating a character.)
If you want to know what are the overall most powerful classes for soloing monsters (unless if you intend to be a casher, in which case you'd be beyond powerful anyway), they are:
1st - Necromancer (comes from Afrocan Mage)
2nd - Elementalist (comes from Kimoan Mage)
3rd - Any class that specializes on bow (Eresian Rogue or, especially, a Kimoan Sharpshooter, although Rangers have some bow stuff as well, since it branches off the Archer class, same as the Sharpshooter. It's also worth mentioning all Eresian/Kimo fighters start off with at least one minor bow skill)
This doesn't mean the other classes are bad, no. It just means that those classes might be easier-to-get-around-with than the others. Each class has its ups and downs.
Hope that helps someone.
