So here is the problem, I bought Ys Seven for PC and I'm trying to get it to english by replacing the PC files by the PSP one, I managed to get nearly everything in english but I still get a few thing in chinese.
1. Names of NPC characters 2. Pop up indicating location when you change area 3.Item+description.
Anyone have an idea where these might be stored?
Thanks

for one and three check the exe with a hex editor capable of displaying Chinese. For 2 it may be graphics which would require hacking.

ankc, I believe that Xalphenos is recommending that in order to better search where some of these NPC names and other information such as items and descriptions, to open up some of the files with a hex editor, capable of displaying Chinese characters and seeing if there is a way to locate where these names are shown and see if there is a way to replace them with English. As for graphics, there may be some that require a graphics editor to replace them. These graphics will also probably need to be extracted somehow.
Anyhow, great project idea and it would surely peak my interest for getting the Chinese version even more if I knew this was possible to turn it into English!
Keep up the good work and hopefully you'll acquire some more help along the way. : )

I was able to play it in ENG but the items remains in chinese. omgfloofy I don't understand what you mean unable to hack because I was able to convert the chinese version almost fully in jap by replacing the files with the psp ones. I can also open the files in notepad to see the text, but i haven't tried editing them.

Hi ankc. I've gone ahead and ordered the PC version of Ys Seven and I'm very interested in adding the PSP English version files over to it. Would you mind detailing your process for how you accessed the files. It also might help Floofy as well with her project or perhaps give us a better understanding if there are different versions of the software, some that are locked with DRM and some that are not depending on the versions purchased. Also, which version of Ys Seven PC did you purchase? Do you have a URL to the product version you ordered? These are the two versions I'm getting: Ys Seven PC Limited Edition @ Amazon.cnYs Seven PC First Press Version @ Amazon.cn-Thomas

I was able to play it in ENG but the items remains in Chinese. So you got the location pop ups and the npc names fixed? And regarding what floofy said. Most Chinese games use very restrictive DRM. More than the average hacker can handle. For instance Fantasia Sango II uses Starforce if i'm not mistaken; which from my research seemed there is only like one warez group out there that can handle it. As long as the files are completely compatible it shouldn't matter though. Hopefully this is the case with all versions of Ys 7 pc.

As you can see many of the folders are named the same and when you look inside have almost the same files, all I did was copy and paste files from the psp version to the PC version. But I didn't not replace everything, I think I replaced files in script and text folder. I was not able to convert the items to eng, if anyone manage to do it post here how you did it and make sure to take a backup of the folder you are going to overwrite before so that if something happens you can just replace it.

NPC names are still in chinese but that doesn't affect your gameplay as when the characters are talking they use the english names, what I meant by npc names are in chinese is that when for e.g: Maya: blah blah blah. Maya is in chinese but when characters are talking they use the english names perfectly fine. If by DRM you mean not being able to access game files then there are none as I can open and replace them perfectly fine.

Question: Since someone actually has the game, is the resolution adjustable?

Hey ankc can you tell us how you bought the serial number. I tried buying one from TaoBao buying agent and they said they didn't think the item was real.

Kamuizero, I believe that page gives you 3 options, one that is a torrent to download a 990.15 MB Setup File Package, one that takes you to a download site for the same thing (requiring a login ID) and one that downloads a downloader executable file.
Of course you would still need a CD key to play once the file setup is complete. I haven't tried yet since I'm still waiting on the physical copies to arrive in the mail. Not sure it's left China yet... lol

It's worth noting that the downloader exe file is just a mini self contained torrent downloader. It was painful trying to download the torrent. I'll see if I can split the file and upload it to mediafire or something. Should be fine since the file is freely available and worthless without a cdkey anyway.
I might not be able to though; my internet sucks here. I'm in the process of moving and living with in-laws for the moment.
