I've used Western Union before, but never to do an Online purchase, so that's where I would get a little lost I suppose. But the general process is that you would go to a Western Union location (for my locale, these tend to be inside various supermarkets, or the customer service has the ability to process a western union order) and process an order to send to a recipient (I'm sure most of these details are either on their site or can be given to you if you send an inquiry to them while logged into your account) and you'll be able to send them the amount as long as you have the cash in your hand + their processing fee (most of the time this is only $1 extra if you are in the States).
Then you would give TaoBaoAgent your WU Money Order information and number, they'll process it and then send you your item you've ordered.

I would really like to get my hands on a key. Been looking around at options, Paypal is my preferred payment method. TBA shows the Paypal logo on the footer and right on the product page, but there is no way to use it? Instead of adding funds I just went ahead and added the key to my cart, entered my address then clicked next assuming that the next page would have a Paypal login but it didn't, just went right to order completed even though I never entered any way to pay. Got confused, so I canceled my pending order. I can add funds using Western Union, which I have never used before. Isn't that as simple as going to a store that lets you send money with it? Shiden, I just saw this in another thread: I don't know about just place an order, but I got the digital version using the link on one of the topics here, and bought a "cd-key" from this link (http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=18768688706&spm=2014.12001318.0.0), using the taobao agent (tbtrends.com), which can be paid using Paypal. So perhaps give this tbtrends.com place a try since they take Paypal? -Thomas

Hello! Thanks for your answer! I bought a CDKEY through TaoBao, but when I input it on the game (following the installation guide) nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? PD: My CDKEY is 15 numbers long, is that okay? EDIT: Nevermind, wrote back to TaoBao! They gave me a wrong serial @_@ Now playing Ys7 English version Thanks for everything!

Has there been any progress on getting the item text etc translated?
And is there a way to get the location names and map names translated? (Using my iso of the PSP version, natch)

Not to my knowledge. It's not really a translation or replacement issue as much as it is an issue with the copy protection Securom preventing changes to the executable file from what I last remember about it. If anything in the executable file is changed, it crashes the game.
There might be a way to do more if the files that contain this information are not being pulled as references in the executable file, but I don't think much more has been discussed regarding that.

I'm about to start up the process for buying a CD key as stated in page 3, but I'm still unclear as to where you get the executable for the game? I saw some Mediafire links on the second page that were expired.

OK. I post it how did I manage to translate Ys 7. Keep it in mind that I'm not a native speaker. 1. <Item, skill, warpdata, etc..> First of all, most of the game files have SDFA protection. So I searched a unpacked files on chines website. And found it. www.pipipan.com/file/18977075 Extract it to game Ys 7 folder and you can find a txt files. (item.txt, skill.txt, , PC.txt, warpdata.txt) There are simple code and you can just edit it then the game will read txt files. For example edit like this. skill.txt @name#(Short Sword) <= Short sword @comment#(Slash: Small, easy-to-use sword.) You can find a translated data from item.tbl and skill.tbl. Compare it to Chinese text. And just edit the all of txt files in text folder. And also PC.txt and PC.tbl 2. <NPC names> There are map folder. You can find a mp_xxxx.arg files. It contains NPC name. Open the file in hex editor and you can find like this. "c202a" "热心研究的学者" "NPC" "热心研究的学者" is a NPC name so, just translated it. 热心研究的学者 is 14bytes but change of file size doesn't matter. The game will read it. 3. <System message> You need a original ys_s.exe file. www.mediafire.com/?11lcumdzalspng8Not version 1.01 or 1.02. Next, make a dump file of ys_s.exe. Use PETools. sourceforge.net/projects/pe-tools/And make a copy of dump.exe. So, now there are two dump file. Dump orgin.exe and Dump for edit.exe Open the Dump for edit.exe in hex editor. Search a text you want to translated. And edit it. If a translated text is longer than original then you should change the text Virtual Address. For example you can find '可对存档进行管理。'. Offset 22C29C To translated it in korean it means "장비 및 스킬을 변경합니다." = "Change the items and skills." It is longer than original text. But don't worry. You can find a japanese text on the dump file. For example, 'パックファイルを使用しないようにします。' Offset 2244C8 It is a dummy text so, just type the translated text on japanese text. And the end of text must end 00 (null). And change the VA address. '可对存档进行管理。 Offset 22C29C = 00 22 C2 9C => VA adress 9C C2 62 00 'Change the items and skills. Offset 2244C8 = 00 22 44 C8 => VA adress C8 44 62 00 Search the hex value. 9C C2 62 00 and C8 44 62 00 You can find it. So, change the 9C C2 62 00 to C8 44 62 00 And finally you need a Pmaker digilander.libero.it/zeusoft/zpmaker.htmor duP 2.26 forum.exetools.com/showthread.php?t=14098 compare Dump origin.exe and Dum edit.exe and make a loader for ys_s.exe. 타이틀 화면으로 복귀합니까? = Return to title screen? 네 = Yes 아니오 = No 4. <Pop up message> In the PSP data, there a map folder in the pack folder. Use my quickbms script to unpack .4sp files. You can download quickbms programs. aluigi.altervista.org/quickbms.htm<code> goto 0x0C get files long for i = 0 < files getdstring name 0x10 get offset long get size long get null long get null long get packname filename string packname += _unpacked/ string packname += name log packname offset size next i <code end> Then you will find *.itv files. Grab all of the *.itv files from the unpacked data. Copy and paste it to mmv3 folder on Ys7 PC. That's all.

There are 13bytes key on the paull.dll and if you can change the right value, you can bypass the game DRM. But it is hard to find.

Welp, that's a job for someone else, I probably would just break the thing. Still though, DRM like that should be illegal. Yeah, editing paul.dll is illegal and hard to find. So I just make a korean translation patch for who purchase the game.

Wow Pingu1905! What a great first post! I think that this will certainly make our efforts of having an English version of the PC game a reality, at least for those who purchased a copy. I think I half-understood how the process works, but it might make more sense once I get into the process a bit. Sadly my PC is all packed up right now since I'm in the middle of a move currently so I cannot try it... : ( So from what I understand, there may be some manual edits that need to take place here for text insertion, but this method will give the ability to patch the game fully in your language of choice for Script, Locations, Items and Skills, Menu and Character Names right and do so without breaking the game in the process? This is great! And I wouldn't worry about trying to edit or hack paul.dll. This project was never about piracy of the game, just about taking a script from a legally owned UMD of Ys Seven PSP and patching a legally owned copy of Ys Seven PC. That's all we ever really wanted. : ) Thank you for posting and your efforts on this. Maybe next, one of us can actually work on creating a patch for the English version. Edit: Btw, I went ahead and downloaded the Unpacked Data Files from that Chinese Site that Pingu1905 linked to in his post as well as the original Ys_s.exe file that he also referenced and placed it in a zip file here. -Thomas

Um... There have been several of us so far that have bought it. I've bought it twice actually because at the time of moving it to another computer I did not "deactivate" the copy I had installed and lost the game because of the DRM. Sure I was upset, but now that Xalphenos has put a very detailed guide out there on how to deactivate the serial number for re-use on a different computer, there is no issue anymore and these keys (while a bit difficult to obtain) are fairly cheap. When I did a bulk order of them last, most were sold to members here who wanted them for $6 a piece! That is ridiculously inexpensive. . .
So no, getting rid of the DRM for the sake of being able to play it without purchasing a serial code when there is a perfectly legal and legitimate way to de-activate and re-activate serial codes that have been purchased, would be a bad thing and illegal to do. This project was never about that, unless it involved needing to deactivate it in order to patch the game properly, of which Pengu1905 has so generously explained to us that it is possible to do without messing with the paul.dll file.
The box set is very cool, and there are so many different limited editions of the game that each one is well worth the purchase in my opinion. The LE set cost roughly $50-60. It's the middleman services and shipping from China that take up most of the costs.

I understand a bit where you are coming from, but also keep in mind that this is not a large publisher like Steam and whether or not it is wrong for them to have chosen DRM on one computer at a time, it is the direction they went with to avoid piracy. Opening up DRM may not automatically mean that you, yourself intend to pirate the game, but this would most certainly lead to illegal distribution as there would not be anyway to stop someone from just sending it and sharing it across the web.
Personally I'm fine with it, I'm used to DRM from other software packages I've purchased such as Adobe and Autodesk products. At least here in this case, It's cheap enough to where I'm okay with it. Maybe if I had spent in the neighborhood of $50-60, and then lost my ability to play it, I'd be a little more than displeased. But at $6 to replace it, it's not really that big of a deal. The trickiest bit was learning how to order it digitally.
I guess if it bugs you that much that it has DRM, you don't have to play it. That's a choice we all have.

Even if I do get around buying the LE of this game, I'll probably end up emulating the game at a higher resolution. It'll probably result in the same picture (roughly). They are pretty similar but the PC version has some better textures. I posted a screen shot several months ago. It's not a great one. I should have taken some more I just couldn't be fussed to play far enough into the game on both platforms to do it. Honestly as enticing as these new developments are it's still a whole lot of trouble to go through to get to play the game in English. And since all the English stuff we're copying from the psp is copy written a more traditional patch is never going to happen. The best case would be a custom program that can read the psp iso and automate the whole process of copying files over, extracting them and then editing the pc files that need it. Here is the post I was talking about where I posted the screenshots. I agree Red. There was never any official news about it on joyoland's website. The original blog entry that started this no longer exists and the only other news about it was all the sites quoting the original blog. Honestly the best way to play Ys 7 on PC is with the emulator PPSSPP. The textures are a little better on the PC version but PPSSPP with 4xIR(internal resolution) still looks quite good. PPSSPP PC

Truner I thought about that. I can't remember off the top of my head if PPSSPP supports loading custom textures. If it did that would truly be the best way to play Ys 7. Edit: Oh yeah from what I remember most of the textures are new for the pc version. They actually did do a good job porting it.

There's no patch for the game, however, you can experiment with the files from the official release if you have it. If you end up making the game play in English, do not distribute the patch as it would be illegal (since the text comes from the official release). Personally, I'd just use PPSSPP to emulate the game. The lower res textures aren't that much of a problem when you can get the game to run in a matter of minutes compared to having to fuck around with random files from two different releases. You can easily buy the PSP version and it's not even expensive. I bought that a long time ago and i still have my PSP but i love to play them on PC since i get to play it in 1080p I hope XSEED ship them to us
