Sup! Does anyone even remember me? Anyway, a little project I'm working on, so to speak. You guys are the only people I know that might be mildly interested on something like this, so I'm posting it here. Playlist on Youtube: www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDBCBDB06ABC8589AIt might not really be fun to watch because it's mostly skips and cutscenes, oh well. This is on ver. 1.0.0.4, by the way. It's also full of little mistakes here and there because I'm not taking this 100% seriously, as I don't even have the time to do that (I usually try stuff on the little time I have available which is ~2 hours a day. lolstudies ;_;). Anyway, I don't have much time available, so that's it for now. I might edit this later to post info and curiosities about the stuff used on the run/the game's system if anybody wants or if I feel like it. Feel free to ask any questions!

Very interesting. We're discussing stuff over on SDA ( link) about speedrunning this game, but it's mostly just ordinary play stuff (because I think most of the discussion is from people with newer versions of the game, which of course have less bugs), and a lot of it is concerning Yunica's route. I think using your version and methods, you may not have much use for the info, but it's there anyway (also, keep in mind, I don't know if there's any true experts in that topic - certainly not me, at least). EDIT: Segment 2, wouldn't it be faster to activate the 2nd Flooded Prison save statue to warp back to after the cutscene? Or are you too underpowered or something?

Nice!! Just watched those 3 segments! XDDDDD That was amazing and so fun! You told me a very, very long time ago you intended to speedrun Ys Origin, but it's been so long, I had totally forgotten about it. I'm glad to see you actually started recording and uploading it now! XD I'm definitely looking forward to more!

Segment 04. Could get it done today because of how simple it is (and even then it still took me way longer than I wanted it to). Thanks for the link Korzic. I figured there'd be a thread on SDA but didn't bother to go look for it. I originally planned to make a proper submission there but don't really want to do it now. Maybe next year if I'm not as busy as I am this year so I can get an proper run with as few mistakes as I can get. There's also their rules, which I'm not sure if I'm fulfilling correctly. As for segment 2, you guessed right. At Level 1 and missing Rico's Cleria Ore, Yunica only hits the mob there for 1 damage, and even with the Ore she still only hits for 1. In any case, I need to grind to Level 6 for the turtles later on and I believe those slimes + knights are the fastest way to level up.

Any progress with this lately? Also, a heads up if you're not already aware. I've heard that the Phoenix Sword "super jump" bug was unable to bypass certain doors, most notably one in the Silent Sands (the key door you get from Rado's Annex, I think it was, along with some Corrupted Blood ones, but I don't know for sure), but yesterday, I was watching someone stream using the axe jump to get past that Silent Sands door. I think what he ended up doing was use a diagonal glitchy jump (jumping in diagonal corners at certain angles will give you extra jump height, though it pales in comparison to the axe/sword super jumps) on the door frame, then proceeded to do the axe jump to get behind the door afterwards (Edit: Actually, I don't think there were diagonal glitchy jumps here, but I do remember the door frame was still used somehow, plus I think it was done with Toal (he can do the attack animation cancel-jump thing too, apparently) - not sure if that makes a difference or not). Also of note is that Yunica can WW through certain doors (I can only get it to work in the first area, boss door excluded), which is theoretically faster than using axe jumps (but much more inconsistent, in my experience).
Anyway, just mentioning this stuff if you don't already know. I'm guessing the Silent Sands grinding from your latest segment was for Jenocres, but that should now be skippable. Hopefully the other previously "unskippable" doors are now passable in much the same manner.

Hopefully the other previously "unskippable" doors are now passable in much the same manner. I have university entrance exams from early November to late December so yeah I'm going to be busier and not really able to do much for a while. The next segment has a bunch of jumps that are easy to mess up as well. I'm also being way too perfectionist on my runs. Regarding the grinding and the door, I actually grind to have a faster clear time on the cutscene where Leah gives you the item to permanently kill the skeleton enemies that revive after being killed. Since the cutscene triggers while going inside the room, you can't skip it as far as I'm aware. If the door you're talking about is the door I think it is, I skip that one. There's a small trick to skip some of the game's key locked doors, on mouse that is. Sometimes when you're too high up and close to walls, the cursor goes to some random direction and you no longer move forward. I don't remember exactly but I think if you hug the wall you can't skip it regardless. Anyway, what I do is stay slightly far from the door, start an super jump and once I'm high up enough in the air I hold forward on the keyboard. With sword you can use the wind skill to stay longer in the air, though I don't really remember if you can skip some of them with it. About the WWs, I didn't know about them, that's really nice. I'll try and take a look at it later.

Ah, right, the Silver Chimes (or whatever they're called) enemies. I always forget about those for some reason (probably because I only play the newer game versions, which don't have as much skips, which means being properly leveled =p). Hmm, I wonder if I'm confusing the "impassable doors" thing from another glitch (aside from attack animation cancel-jumping, Toal can also Wind skill through most doors - but perhaps not all of them)...?
Anyway, good that you know about it, and thanks for the clarification. Also, I didn't mean to try and rush your progress, I was just curious, that's all.

Currently my priority is to submit a 100% speed run (with major skips while collecting everything that is tracked [armor, boots, accessories, skill jewels, inventory items, activate all save statues]) to Speed Demos Archive. I only occasionally visit these boards, way more active on SDA btw. arukimi you should join the discussion about the speed running of Ys games over there. Up to you though. I've been streaming more regularly so follow me if you want too! twitch.tv/shiden86 also follow Korzic twitch.tv/korzicI don't know how much you know but, afaik I have discovered a use for the "mega jump" .. ? I don't know what to officially call it, lol. Found a pretty cool skip in The Blighted Blood (going to be using Xseed translated names) that bypasses all the buttons except for the first one near the start of the zone that control the spiked gates.

Just a heads up, I picked this up again and managed to finally get segment 7 done today. With that out of the way gonna try and do as much as possible while I'm still on vacation, so hopefully I can get a few more segments in. I can't promise anything but I'll try not to completely abandon this once again.

Looking good, but those mistakes are pretty unfortunate.
I saw that you were maybe looking to do single segment runs of the game? I'm not sure how often they do it, or on what platform (I think it's probably Steam, but don't quote me on that =p), but I've heard of a couple of people doing races on SpeedRunsLive in the past. The most recent runners I remember are General_Beatrix and XtremeBored, I think. Perhaps I could also be persuaded to join in sometime, but I'm really not that good/experienced to begin with (plus, what little skill I did have, I'm horribly out of practice at the moment).
