I'm having trouble getting the game to even start. I get a window stating D3D drive not located. I've upgraded my graphicd card, updated windows and still unable to boot.
Anyway come across this problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Update DirectX 9Yes, I know Windows Vista and 7 come with DX11 but DX9 should still be updated.

Gave it a download, didn't work. But thank you anyway, needed the update When I go into configuration for the game, I notice a box in the right bottom corner stating 'Cannot find hardware Vertex Shader v.1.1, speed is not optimzed' Is that the cause of the problem?

Try these:
- I'm not sure, but there may be a way to disable certain shaders from Origin's Config tool. I think you'll need to go to your Steam Library from within the Steam Client, right-click on Ys Origin, and see if there's a "Launch Configuration" (or something similar). There may be options to disable shaders. Try and see if that changes anything.
- Are you playing any games released later than Ys Origin without any problem? Chances are (though not always) later games will use shaders with capabilities in Shader Model 1.1 or later. If these games run, then the problem is with the game.
- Check/Update your video card drivers. The capabilities exposed by later shader versions may not be present on your current video card drivers, or even your current video card.
- Try uninstalling and reinstalling the game.
I'm no expert on the subject, but these are the things I'd do. Someone here who knows DX more than I might know better what to do.

'Cannot find hardware Vertex Shader v.1.1, speed is not optimzed' just means that your hardware doesn't support vertex shading, which is just fine the game will just run slow.
Could you please provide a screenshot of the error message? I've run Ys Origin in low-end PCs without problems (included the "Vertex Shader not found") so I really can't see what your problem here is.
What you could try is using the "Lightest" preset from the configuration tool, also choose the lowest resolution possible (640x480).
