Hi there,
when I read about Ys-Games the stories are either considered totally clichéd or very good, nothing in the middle. This baffles me, since all JRPG's I know are build on certain tropes (even the Persona-Titles, who are cited as an example for original stories).
So, which Ys-Game(s) tell the best stories? I only played Oath in Felghana and Ys Origin so far and thought that the stories were quite good.
Oath's plot has a good build-up and adds some depth through a few visual details at the end and Origin has strong characters, who give their unique perspective to what is happening in the tower. I still need to finish Toals and Hugos run, but I like so far how the goddesses are humanised and how the game seems so to create a yarn about guilt and growing up.
So yeah, which game tells the best story and why?

I have not played all the Ys games but I personally favor Ys I. The story of the villain is one that I enjoy the most.
