How does this game compare to Ys Complete 1&2? I'm curious because I've never played the remakes of the first two.

it is hard to compare because they seem different, all 3 games are awesome and probably the best versions you will find on the market of the Ys series. i wish they would go back and finish the series off in 3d like they are doing now with Ys 3 and Ys 6 and possibly Ys 4. a 3d version of 1 and 2 with the game engine and graphics of the this would be incredible.

why not? the more the merrier i was thinking they might if they decide to do Ys 4 and 5 next as well (seems likely) maybe when they are done they will go back and finish off the series by releasing part 1 and 2 over with the same style graphics. this will be a few years from now of course but it is possible, we have had tons of remakes and variations of Ys 1 and 2 over the years, so 1 more in about 5 years does not seem far off. chris edit: by the way i love 1 and 2 complete and there is nothing wrong with it . but could you imagine the possibilites of a upgraded Ys 1&2 with Ys OIF style graphics

I think its time for a completely new adventure for the next installment. I mean how many different remakes is Falcom going to do? Dont get me wrong, it would be badass to play Ys I and II with Napishtims engine. Maybe in the next few years a better engine will be made and they will spill the beans yet again with another remake of Ys I and II.

it seems that wether we like it or not falcom will continue with remakes there is already a rumor of Ys 4 being remade. it seems likely that this will probably happen someday with 1 & 2 as well, i to am looking forward to a new game in the series, Ys 6 was a wonderful addition and we really need more of that.

That would be the best game ever, making Ys I and II like felghana with re-done music in its ENTIRETY, I would be the first to get it.

What about the musical arrangements? Is the quality of the soundtrack on par with Ys OiF?

no not really, the music is good on Ys 1&2 complete but not as good as Ys OIF it is also a far cry from the PC engine version of 1&2. thankfully there is a patch for the PC version to change the music into the Pc engine version chris

Enough with the Turbo version. We're talking Falcom here. You will never see Turbo-ish music in a Falcom game.

Can you explain then why The Oath in Felghana has Turbo-ish music? :) I see JDK Band mentioned in the ending credits. It doesn't. JDK Band doesn't necessarily mean it was the SAME JDK Band as fifteen years ago. I never played the Turbo versions, only the SNES versions of the games (except for Ysf, of course). Which also means I never played Ys I or Ys II before; never played the Eternal versions, either. As far as the next Ys game goes, I would rather they didn't do another remake and just have Adol and Dogi go off on another adventure.

I don't know - when I first played Ys (for me, it was originally on the Sega Master System), I thought it was a great game - and years later finally managed to play it on the TG-16 (and Ys II of course, then Ys III).
By then, I loved the game for its music and story, and the boss battles - but also by that point I found the "bump into an enemy" system of fighting kind of strange. Not enough to prevent me from playing it, mind you - but when Ys VI came out it was the kind of Ys game I had been waiting for. Ys:The Oath in Felghana is equally fantastic.
I've played the remakes of Ys I&II, and while pretty, I personally don't feel it compares in terms of gameplay or music - and was disappointed when I learned that the 'old style' of fighting was still used. I'm all for an Ys VII, but... I won't begrudge Falcom at all if they decide to overhaul the other games in the series as they did Wanderers From Ys. Ys IV:Mask of the Sun and Ys V:Kefin, Lost City of Sand were two that never got great exposure, too (especially compared to the first two), so it'd be good to see them get an Extreme Makeover...
They turned out OiF pretty quickly, they've got a good engine... I'm all for it.

I love the old 'crashing' into enemy system of the old games. It gave the typical ARPG combat system a unique spin, but more importantly, it was simple and fun.
I'm not talking out of nostalgia here. I recently got into the series a few months ago through Ys VI on the PS2.
