Red Hairdo: There is no mutual connection between Ys and SMT. And I know you were just being childish, but Falcom's site's banners are there for commercial reasons, and not to randomly pollute their site. Plus Falcom isn't a forum for discussion ( lol),so banner it is

Truner: Maybe, just maybe there's a connection between the admins of both forums. Maybe, again, just maybe this is our way of telling others about our sites. Finally, JUST MAYBE you don't understand how fricking forum affiliation works in general?
Sept 8, 2014 15:34:10 GMT -5
Truner: In a sense, being affiliates is very similar to those commercial banners on Falcom's site. See, we are promoting each other, making users from our forum visit other forums. In exchange (for normal affiliates) we get the same service and promotion.
Sept 8, 2014 15:35:42 GMT -5
Truner: and it'd be nice if you wouldn't call mutual affiliation a form of pollution.
Sept 8, 2014 15:37:26 GMT -5
Red Hairdo: There's nothing wrong with forum affiliation itself, but it does visually pollute a page a bit, just like an ad (for which I use adblock like most members here). If I'm not mistaken, to both please the users as well as keep any affiliation of the sort...
Sept 8, 2014 17:50:22 GMT -5
Red Hairdo: ..., people use a portal page to keep all banners and other relevant links/features. ALoY itself used to have a portal to go to if, and only if, you, the user, wanted to. It even used to have a download section and all, as well.

Truner: Welp, managed to delete the duplicate AND the original shout, I think. Sorry about that. Well, if you are bothered by six small-ish buttons on the bottom of the page, I'm very sorry. At the same time, I don't care. These have been in place for ~half a year
Sept 8, 2014 18:06:59 GMT -5
Truner: and they aren't going to disappear anytime soon either. Thanks for the feedback though. That said, if you use adblock, you can block the buttons, no one is stopping you, nor will anyone criticize you for it.
Sept 8, 2014 18:07:32 GMT -5
Red Hairdo: The issue is not that single banner, nor about my preferences. It's about taking good care of the forum, and I'm basically saying this derails it for no reason. Right now it's a single banner, but...
Sept 8, 2014 18:51:28 GMT -5
Red Hairdo: what you basically said means anyone can literally link this to any random shit, even if completely irrelevant to Ys fans. By very definition this is pollution. You say that's been there for 1/2 an year, but that has NOT been there for 10 years.
Sept 8, 2014 18:53:58 GMT -5
Red Hairdo: In short: One irrelevant banner is a minor nuisance already, but will there be increasingly more irrelevant banners over time?
Sept 8, 2014 19:00:07 GMT -5
Truner: Maybe and it's up to the staff (and ultimately MP83) to decide which site gets affiliated and which won't. Also, the golden rule of affiliating is to connect with sites out of the interest of the forum. Case closed. Further shouts will be ignored.
Sept 9, 2014 4:00:09 GMT -5
Red Hairdo: Since at the current moment it's an extremely minor matter, I guess I'll overlook it. Of course, though, if eventually we ever start getting too many of those, or if others complain "why MY site can't be there?", then it'd have to be brought up again.
Sept 9, 2014 22:31:20 GMT -5
SkyeWelse: Not that the banners really bother me all that much, but if it came to an issue of "why isn't this site there?", I'm sure that the non-Falcom sites would most likely be the first to get removed in favor of Falcom sites.
Sept 9, 2014 23:12:31 GMT -5
SkyeWelse: Also, if there ended up being too many to choose from, I'm sure it would be called to a vote as to which ones should be kept. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Sept 9, 2014 23:13:12 GMT -5
Red Hairdo: Yeah, that'd be ideal.
Sept 9, 2014 23:46:05 GMT -5
Truner: Red Hairdo, anyone's site can be there as long as we agree to affiliate. Certain criteria's have to meet before that happens, though. It's not happening to absolutely random sites, but sites that might help bring ALoY more viewers.
Sept 10, 2014 3:19:43 GMT -5
Truner: I also have a hard time believing that non-Falcom sites would go first. If we can't keep the golden rule of affiliating because a few users bitch about it, we might as well ditch affiliates completely. Bring in 1000+ users first.
