OK! This is weird. I got Gurumin a little while ago and finally tried to give it a whirl. I tried to install it, and before the "progress" screen to come up, I get a message that "an unknown error has occurred" and closes down everything.
That's great - I have no clue what's wrong. I have my non-Unicode setting set to Japanese, and all kinds of other Falcom Windows games (all three Ys games, Xanadu Next, many others) all worked without a hitch. Anyone encounter any similar issues?

Did you change your regional time zone to Japan before installing it? Cuz you need to. :P
I shall copy and paste from my own guide! WHEE!
Q1) How do I even install the game!?
A1) It seems that Falcom was really intent on not letting folks outside of Japan play Gurumin. The game comes with a strange "protection scheme" in that, unless you change your time zone to Japan, you won't even be able to install it! To change your time zone, double click on the Windows clock. (If your clock is not showing for whatever reason, right click on your taskbar and select Properties. Check Show the clock and click OK.) Now choose Time Zone and in the pull-down menu, go to (GMT+0900) Osaka, Sapporo, Tokyo and click Apply. After installing the game, you can change the clock back to your own time zone. :3

...and yet they accept orders internationally? Haha, oh wow. They're not the first company I've seen do that, but they are the first that will ship you the game happily without telling you they put in more feeble measures to try and stop you playing it >.>

Nope! Didn't try that. Guess I'll give it a go. Many thanks!
Funny how it's only Gurumin with this issue - I just tried installing LoH6 FC right afterward and it worked brilliantly.

It might not be intentional, although if it weren't, it would be a strange "bug." At least the game DOES take advantage of the clock in one way or another.

You know, upon rethinking about this, I believe they deliberately make it so that it has to use Japan Standard Time cuz of the New Year's outfit. :O

If it were something that simple, I doubt the error message would be so vague. Maybe they just didn't know what to use for an error message. XD I actually had the same problem with the game not installing when I first got it. The error message really gives you no clue as to what is wrong, IIRC. I ended up checking the official Gurumin page and did a head -> desk when I discovered that the problem was a time zone issue. Who would have thought? ^^ But wait, did you even get it to install, discoalucard?
