Is it odd that Falcom hasn't announced anything on new projects yet? I could have sworn that they always had something "pending" or at least announced something new shortly after a release.

Actually, Ys Origin was announced very shortly before its release, wasn't it? I wouldn't be suprised if Falcom went with a simialar strategy for its newer releases. Origin was first teased was on September 1, released on December 21. Hillsboro? That's close to Leroy, TX.

Throw my vote in for a Popful Mail remake or port. That was a pretty fun (if slightly frustrating at times) game.
Failing that, Falcom needs to remake Ys IV and V... then give us NEW stuff.

I'd like a new, Adol Ys Game (not another Origin, although it was fun) - Ys VII. Remakes of 4 or 5 (especially five) would be welcome as well.
But, above all, I'd like a sequel, spinoff, or just a game with similar style to Gurumin. I fell in love with it after playing it on PSP and would really really like a new game in the same vein. I'm still a relatively new Falcom fan, so I can't really suggest anything else as I've only played all the Ys games and Gurumin.

I've got to disagree, Zwei is one of (if not the only of) Falcom's modern games that is a miss. The only thing that you can really connect it to Gurumin is that both games have a visual representation for timing of critical hits.. except that in Zwei it's purely visual while in Gurumin critical hits are timed to the beat of the music. Any other attempts to link the two games are merely desperate attempts to connect two wholly unrelated games, in my opinion.
Anyway, that aside.. Zwei is a game that SHOULD be something I'd be in love with. Very cute 2D graphics and it's essentially a dungeon crawler, just a bit shy of being a rouge-like. Both of those should be an instant winner for me, but the gameplay is very poor.. it's reminiscent of early Falcom games where they wanted to make action RPGs but just didn't have the technical know-how to do it right (bumping into monsters, spinning buzzsaw swordplay, etc.). But a lot of those games still managed to be fun despite that.. unfortunately, Zwei fails at that aspect. Moving around and fighting monsters is very sloppy.. and as that's so much of this game, it's tiring and makes the game tedious and boring. It's not to say it's entirely a bad game.. it has a lot of charm and I really like the food as experience system, but if you're just getting into Falcom there's probably a dozen games worth looking into above Zwei.

Anyway, I was thinking I'd also like to see a Dragon Slayer revival. I suppose that Xanadu Next is probably pretty much just that.. but I'd definitely like to see them tackle another game style in that vain and bring back the Dragon Slayer name. Maybe they could do it as a 3rd-person action RPG? Sort of like Gurumin, except with actual RPG stuff in it.

Don't let naysayers like Seldane and Leroy stop you from enjoying Zwei!!... Whahaha, the list is building up...

Disregarding the current conversation. I'd like to see either a remake of I and II using the Napishtim/Felghana engine, or Ys VII. VII should either be sometime before napishtim, or much later into Adol's life and give hints about his adventures prior to it as you go through, as a way to clue you in on the stories of future games.

Leroy: Zwei!! also has a very similar level structure to Gurumin, with an overworld split into separate forest, water, volcano, cave, light, and dark levels.. So I guess Mario, Zelda and Metroid (and literally hundreds of other Japanese games) are unofficial sequels to Zwei based on this. Super Mario World has an overworld with a forest, water, volcano, cave and dark worlds.. oh no! It's a sequel to Zwei! It's fine that you like the game.. but you're connecting the games on terms that could apply to literally hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of games. If there were any connecting characters or even cameos, or if there was even REMOTELY similar gameplay (the two games couldn't be more different in that regard) I'd be willing to side with you.. but Zwei and Gurumin hold no more similarities than Ys and Xanadu do. And Falcom uses the same sound effects across several games, that's really nothing world-shattering. Hey, Xanadu Next has nearly identical switch puzzles too.. let's say that's Zwei 3, why not, right? There's a forest, water, cave and volcano levels there too.

A new Ys game is probably the least likely at the moment, considering Origin was just released. It's probably already in the works though.. but I also wouldn't count on another remake of I and II for a while, the Eternal/Complete releases are still (sort of) recent and Origin took some things from them as is..

Maybe they'll announce something new after the Ys Origin upgrade is released.

It's gotta be something new, Eiyuudensetsu 6 wrapped up, I might be inclined to go with Leroy...The only "old stuff" they could possibly do is YsF for the PSP.

No, it is wrapped. For a while, Falcom was pushing out Ys and ED6 side by side. No more ED6, so they really are out of material to sequelify.
Maybe they've got ED7 going? Ys 7?
