You really think that way about the PS2 version of Ys III, Red Hairdo? Hehe, then you're going to die by orgasm when playing The Oath in Felghana - trust me. Ys III for PS2 is crappy compared to awesomeness, known as "Ys: The Oath in Felghana" (popular opinion). Only Seldane doesn't prefer it over the other versions of Ys III. And just so you know, there ARE easy and hard difficulty levels in the MSX2 version of Ys III, you just haven't found them. When game asks for an user disk and tells you to press ENTER, you'll have to press SPACE BAR to switch between difficulty levels (the default is NORMAL). xD Well, I really want to play Ys OiF as soon as it is in english! I do believe the game is VERY BEAUTIFUL and wonderful and all... Anyway, I didn't know that the MSX2 version had difficulty settings. But the PS2 version is the only which has the Nightmare difficulty setting. There!

Sound test mode: Mega Drive version SNES version (using a cheat code) PS2 version (Might be in other versions too, I wouldn't be surprised). Also, I agree with Wyrdwad - difficulty settings and/or boss rush modes are the most uninteresting features ever. I always play games on normal, and if I'm replaying it, I always choose normal again. I also really dislike the music in the PS2 game, but I do LOVE the graphics! Ys 3 on PS2 is the prettiest game I have ever seen. Fantastic. I also love the gameplay and of course everything else. It is Ys 3 - a great game!

Hmmm...well, it seems the PS2 version is not the only one which has Sound Test. My mistake there then. As for the Diffuculty Setting, I think it is something of importance. You see, a 4 years-old child won't be able to play and beat certain games due to its big difficulty (Like Ghouls 'n' Ghosts). The same can be applied on Ys III: I remember when I was 5, I had (and still have) the cartridge for SNES. I never did beat the game, it was just too hard for a child like I was. I beated it after YEARS when I was a little more older. BUT, if I had the PS2 version when I was 5, I could select the EASY difficulty and then BEAT THE DAMN GAME! You see, I got a point there. I wouldn't have to wait years just to see the end of a game I can beat in just a few hours nowadays. Also whenever I play a game which has a difficulty setting, I always choose the hardest difficulty possible, and even so most games are "kinda" easy. So, thanks to the difficulty setting, I can play a harder version of the game, which can entertain me A LOT MORE, unlike other versions such as the SNES'. (The ONLY game I HAVE TO select the "easy" difficulty so far is 'Typing of Ys' : ) ) [...]As for the new sword combos and such, they'd be nice IF ADOL STILL MOVED AT LIGHTNING SPEED, and IF ADOL STILL HAD THE MACHINE-GUN SWING GOIN' FOR HIM[...] You know, in the PS2 version, the delay between each sword swing is JUST LIKE the other versions (SNES, MSX2, etc.). Actually, I suspect it is even very little faster, but I'm not so sure about that. Anyway, just be sure you don't use the 4ยบ attack of the combo, because you'll have to wait a second in order to attack again. (Though that would be a waste since that attack gives multiple hits and it is stronger, but if the matter is the so-spoken "speed", then just don't use it) Though there IS in fact one thing: Adol can't attack while walking, unlike the other versions. This is absolutely no issue to me, but if you dislike it, you can just attack while in mid-air, just like I usually do (in order to attack and dodge faster). By the way, Adol doesn't "move in lightning speed" just in the Redmont Village. He runs just as fast as ever in every other place. C'mon, you can't disagree 100% with me since I pointed some facts (and also some "opinion-like stuff"). = )

IIRC, you can't hold down the attack button to keep swinging your sword in the PS2 version -- you have to keep pressing it, instead. This is not true. If you hold down the Circle button, Adol will keep attacking. It's all a matter of opinion, of course... but in my opinion, the PS2 version of Ys 3 blows chunks. And I'm not just saying this based on a brief trial run: I did actually BEAT the PS2 version of Ys 3, on normal mode, and I even played through boss rush once! And I STILL hate it, and will never play that version of the game again! -Tom ='( *snif* As you wish. It is indeed a matter of opinion and tastes afterall.

Hmmmmm...sh*t. xD I played the PS2 Ys III yesterday again and I noticed I said one incorrect information, which I marked in my quote with the red color. Well, just correcting. It has the "easy", "normal" and "hard" difficulty settings only, just like the MSX2 version. : ) Oh, and sorry for the double post. =X

I think Ys 3 for PS2 is definitely better than any other version of Ys 3, I also think it is a much better game than YsF. Ya know, sometimes I think that you go well out of your way just to say things you KNOW people are going to think you are crazy for. Better than YsF? Wow, one day Seldane I swear I WILL figure out your taste in videogames. Of course it will be a long LONG time from now I figure.

Better than YsF? Wow, one day Seldane I swear I WILL figure out your taste in videogames. That is impossible because it changes every day. Last week I was crazy for random Mega Drive games and this week only high resolution 3d action games are good enough.

It came down to a toss up between the Genesis and SNES versions, the former being the first Ys game I ever played. I chose the Genesis for its superior sound quality and arrangement, the choice of coloring, and for a couple nuiances with the story. I'll give the SNES version props for having 5 times the save space, but that's still a fairly minor detail.
Ironically, I still prefer the Genesis names- finding them a bit more aesthetically pleasing, though I think part of it also may have come from the way it was translated to the SNES.

The fact that the PC-Engine version is so far ahead in this poll tells me that more people listen to the soundtrack than play the game. Sure it has all of the toppings, best soundtrack, best cutscenes, voice acting. But the game itself is a choppy mess with poor control. The SNES and Genesis versions are far superior.

I didn't play the PCE version. 'o.o Anyway, are the graphics worse enough to match with the GEN and SNES versions?

Standing still the graphics are on par with the Genesis version. The problem occurs whenever you move left or right. In this game the backgrounds move independantly from the foreground, and it's not smooth like the SNES and Genesis versions. Also Adol seems to be missing an animation in his walk. It's most noticeable when you are standing right on top of a door, and you need to take one step to side to be able to go threw it. You can't just tap the controller once, and be lined up with the door, you have to run back a few steps and start over.

The PC Engine version will always be my favorite, but the Famicom version really kicks ass.

Ok, anybody that voted for the Genesis version is on crack! I mean the fortune teller has, and I quote "long flowing back hair." That aside, Genesis controls usually just suck, and Ys III is no exception. The Turbo version (first version I ever played) has good music, but I gotta go with the SNES, no question...

Genesis controls usually just suck What are you basing this on? I can't disagree with you more. I prefer the Genesis version myself, because the SNES music makes me want to smash my eardrums out. Those of you who dig that grating, harsh stuff: you are insane! Or deaf! Maybe both! And those cutscenes... urgh. As for the Fami version, I did play a little bit of it, and despite being ugly and sounding like crap, it plays okay. Not something I'm itching to go back to and finish. Hopefully soon I'll be able to weigh in about the PS2 port, too.

There! Now SNES and Genesis are tied. I prefer the Genesis version. It looks much nicer and despite the sound chip the music is a lot more enjoyable than listening to inaccurate samples, and a lot more upbeat, a long with the game play being much more difficult.

I wanna vote for the PC version! :(((((!! Damn this poll for being created before it was released!
(And I can only vote for Oath in Felghana since that's the ONLY version I've played. I tried a bit of the SNES one before but didn't even get past the first dungeon. XD)

I liked the snes version of Ys3 over the genesis and turbo grafx. The turbo grafx was slow and wasn't challenging (yet had good music) and Genesis had pretty crappy music and graphics (too easy). I voted for sness.

I can't understand how anyone can like any other 2d version over the PS2 Ys III remake!!! I mean, in the PS2 remake Adol actually controls like a sidescrolling video game character, as opposed to in all the previous versions where he controls like... er.... no video game character I have ever tried to use. There's no skill or gameplay in the previous Ys III versions! You are pretty much forced to grind to the point where enemies do no damage and you can kill them in one hit, because of the awful play mechanics. In the PS2 remake they changed it so that you can actually play the game without stopping to grind two levels into the game! Adol does more damage and it's possible to avoid attacks and stuff. I'm so confused about this, really. I mean, I can understand people liking OiF more than the PS2 remake... but liking the SNES or Genesis version or even the TG16 version more than the beautiful PS2 version?

In my case, the SNES version of Ys III was really easy. I had no problems at all with Galbalan. And I do really like the SNES version, but I'll just have to walk away from this not being able to understand how anyone can prefer any other sidescrolling Ys III to the PS2 remake. I just remember liking Ys III SNES mostly for the music and the fact that it is a side scrolling RPG (this is a fetish of mine... I love sidescrolling games with RPG elements and/or large worlds to explore)... but I actually like playing the PS2 remake. Having said that, I did sell the PS2 remake pretty quickly (though I would buy it again if I could find it for a low price). OiF makes it obsolete in a way.
