I am not a big fan of anime or manga. In fact, there are only two animes that I like - Record of Lodoss War and the Ys anime. And I really like these animes, and I'd love to see some more anime in the same genre.
So my question is: are there other animes in this genre? If so, are they available on DVD? I am not interested in any other kind of anime, really.

ooh ooh! *raises his hand quickly* I know one that hasn't been mentioned yet Seldane-san ^.^! Tales of Eternia! That is a very good "adventure" and "fantasy" style anime, even if it is only 13 episodes long. But hey..Ys was a short anime, but it was still REALLY good, so..numbers aren't everything XD! Also! I found something else called, "Generation of Choas: Next" while trying to find an adventure/fantasy type anime myself, and I believe it is one as well, soooo..check it out!

Good! I don't want many episodes. It gets expensive that way. Also, I usually get tired of long shows, so the shorter the better (unless it's REALLY good, he he)!

Anyone seen RG Veda? Awesome! It is a shame it was not finished. It is on DVD though I believe.

Here's the problem-- there isn't much of anything that's like Record of Lodoss War. Trust me, I've tried. Record of Lodoss War is fairly unique to anime in general that decidedly tries to pander to its audience.
Your mileage may vary on Vision of Escaflowne. One part fantasy, one part mecha, one part shoujo angst... well, it depends how much you can stomach love triangles and pretty-boys.
Incidentally, about Tales of Eternia. I never heard of it being released domestically.

You are right. It wasn't ever released domestically, buuuuut...that still doesn't mean you can't find the DVD ^.^. www.gamesfantasy.com/d0274.htmlI can "stomach" pretty boys rather well Razor XD..eh...wait a minute..you was talking to...*points to Seldane-san, then to himself* Eh....hmmmm..*slowly steps back for a moment, then turns around and runs off quickly* e.e..... P.S. Also...I may be wrong on this, but..I don't think it's allowed to be posting stuff such as torrents to animes on here. I KNOW it's not allowed to post torrents for movies, sooooo...I kinda figured it applied the same to animes..licensed or not. Then again..as I said before..I may be wrong about that.

There is a Dragon Slayer: Legend of Heroes OAV (2 episodes). It's only released on VHS so unfortunately I haven't seen it.

I forgot to add, I'd prefer the stuff to be dubbed to English. I can't stand the Japanese voices!

Didn't mean any hard feelings from my previous post Tom >_>;. Well..I guess that means Tales of Eternia is out too, huh? *sighs, then shakes his index finger at Seldane-san* Always so picky, hahaha. Then again...I guess I am too..I don't like dubbed anime ..lol.

I saw the RG Veda DVD yesterday. It is only one disc, because the anime series wasn't completed. However it has some incredible art and characters, if you like CLAMP anyway. It has sub and dub modes. It was very cheap at the local Media Play store here in Georgia. Only $11.99. I almost bought it because my copy is a very old VHS.

I really don't have too much of a problem with English dub anime; it used to be a lot worse back in the day. But then, my first real exposure to anime WAS bad English dubs, and even to this day I still hold Robotech to be one of the main staples of the '80s cartoon revolution (the others being Transformers, G.I.Joe, and He-Man, all of which survived the '80s).
By the way, Seldane... have you seen Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight? When you say 'Record of Lodoss War' I just assumed the shorter, older, better OAV series. Chronicles of the Heroic Knight takes place in the same setting with some of the same characters, but has a decidedly low-quality feel to it (which would be a decisive factor I have against recommending it).
Well... there's also the 13 dubbed episodes of Dragon Warrior, but I have no idea how one might obtain those. That show was pretty good before Toriyama got it canned.

Cool, so someone else has seen the Dragon Warrior series. Back then, I believe it was followed by Gamepro TV? I was there every Saturday morning for that. I have to mention I first saw Ys III on Gamepro TV and I went crazy with excitement having played Ys I & II prior to that.

I know...I know...I shouldn't even be mentioning this, but....if you want a rather funny fantasy/adventure series to watch, watch Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals. I watched this dubbed and it was actually pretty funny. www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=613It comes in a two VHS boxset (I don't know if they ever released this on DVD, so I have the boxset with two VHS tapes. It's four episodes (or..OVAs) long. But I would actually SUGGEST watching this one dubbed because of the funny stuff which is said throughout the episodes, lol. And besides..can you name another adventure/fantasy series that features a girl's arse shining? Didn't think so

I hate to smell like spam with this post, but I just had to admit:
"Wow Tom. I believe that is the first thing we have come to an agreement on XD"
Yes..we must be the selected few who actually enjoyed that anime, not because of the story or anything like that, but it was just hilarious and fun to watch, lol.

What is OVA/OAV? Is that two different things or is it just repeatedly misspelled in one way or the other?

*grabs MP83's avatar, borrowing it for a moment to resemble my reaction to Seldane-san's question* Bad Seldane-san! Hahaha. When you told me you wasn't too big into anime, I thought you were joking at the time, lol. So you really don't watch all that much anime then, huh? Not that I'm trying to bash you for your question, but it just surprised me XD

I have to recommend the series Bastard! I can't believe I forgot to mention that one. That is a pretty dark fantasy in it's own right. You can buy the whole series on a DVD collection right now. I saw the fansub version years ago, and never thought it would be translated. But then again, I never thought Hana Yori Dango would be translated either.

w...wow...someone actually like this genre apart from me...
Um...I have loads...Rune Soldier, Slayers, Those who Hunt Elves, Ruin Explorers, Dragon Half, Saber Marionette R, Ys, Weathering Continent, Grandeek, RG Veda, the Heroic Legend of Arslan, Ragnarok the Animation and Izumo.
If you've watched ALL of the above, for God's sakes what's the problem^^

I'm now watching the Beet the Vandel Buster anime series after reading the manga up to volume 7, and it is really good, it does have some comedy, but it's right up there with Dragon Quest in terms of monsters and battles with neat weapons. Very cool. Here's a picture of the hero Beet!
