I remember the first manga I ever read was Sakura Taisen. It was okay, but I never read any more than the first book. Then, I found out it was actually a game and the manga was just another adaption. I moved on to other things after that.

I'm not sure why exactly I dislike it now? It wasn't particularly my type even back when I read it (too romance-y it was for me tastes :/). But I think the main dislike came from the years in-between the time I read it and now. Around that time, if I ever chanced across an old copy of that magazine again, everytime I saw Yota(? [did I get the name right....?]).... meh god. He was such a weak, snively, indecisive character? There was one scene wasn't there in which Ai left him. Or something. And then he was weeping at the bottom of some stairs. Ugh. I think... that was the point I started disliking his indecisive-ness and weakness lots. LOTS.
I guess, when I was 18 or so, any sight of weak hero (or heroines) just plain disgusted me. X'D And it was just too shoujo-ish.
I think I'd like to read it again now, now that I'm more tolerant, to see whether I dislike it just as much still.
By the way, after I wrote this, I noticed how this manga was your first too! XD

Mine was Golgo 13. I used to read it when I was really young, though I had no idea that is was manga at the time. I guess the next one that I followed religiously was Ranma 1/2 and Ah! My Goddess! as well as 3x3 Eyes. I have great memories with all those series. : )

My first manga is Masakazu Katsura's I's in illegal chinese bootleg copy with Engrish translation.
The art inspired me to get better at drawing and move away from trying to be Yoshitaka Amano.

My first manga was Dark Horse's translation of Drakuun. I'd be surprised to find many other who have ever heard of it or read it.
And man I liked I''s. I did prefer Video Girl Ai, though.

I think my first was... Samurai Champloo? That was the first I bought with my own money! The first though was something I read from a friend at school, some generic thing I can't even remember now, ahahaha. That was a while ago.

Berserk.
Actually it's the first and -only- manga I've read. I usually prefer just words to words and pictures in my books, but the anime is one of my favorites so I had to look into the source material.
And yes, the book IS always better than the movie! Kentaro Miura is a genius.

I think the very first manga I read was a volume of CardCaptors ^^; Followed closely by InuYasha and some of those Pokemon mangas that appeared during its initial boom I try to keep only a few favourites nowadays, since I have limited shelf space ^^; Currently only looking forward to new volumes of Excel Saga, and trying to find the other English versions of Matantei Loki Ragnarok, since ADV died before it could finish the 3rd book... Of the second half of the series -_-;

The earliest manga that I still have sitting on my bookshelf is Planetes, since it was the first one that really impressed me. I'd read a bit of manga before, but not very much. (I still haven't watched the anime of that yet... I've owned it for a while, and I want to sometime, but I don't make much time for watching DVDs anymore since I could be playing games instead. :p)
The earliest manga that I ever bought were the early Pokemon ones, published in comic book form... yeah, I was a pretty big follower of Pokemon back in the day, and a few of my friends still are (though that's mostly for the multiplayer aspect). They're pretty much the only comics (in traditional comic book form) that I really followed and collected, other than the Disney Aladdin tie-in comics when I was a kid.

If this is too thread of an old to post to (typo, and I'm sticking to it!) lemme know, but I saw a post I wanted to respond to so HA!
My first manga I ever read I'm pretty sure was a Ranma 1/2. I leafed through an ex girlfriend's triguns a little, read some sailor moon... in highschool my group shared a set of Chobits but I never got through it. The only Manga I've read all the way through, and own, is Utena. I absolutely adore Utena, and have the anime, the movie, the manga, and the manga of the movie.
Elena wearing Chester's outfit is so Utenalicious. <3

Elena wearing Chester's outfit is so Utenalicious. <3 When you put it that way... maybe that's why I like that piece of art so much. It's been my PC desktop for the last few months ;P
