Hi fellow board members,
after years of not playing Ys, I wanted to experience it once again.
I have the first release of Ys 1 Eternal (CD Version, no DVD version was published). To my surprise it runs perfectly on my new XP machine.
The only thing that bothers me is that the DVD drive makes quite some noise. My idea was creating an ISO (or bin/cue) from the CD and mount the image using DAEMON tools.
When I try it, the game still runs fine, but I cannot get any CD-DA music in the game :(
I tried enabling "analog audio" in the DAEMON tools and disabling digital audio support in the drive settings, but nothing works.
So I'm playing right now from the original CD, but I'd still appreciate any hint to solve this problem !
Thanks Fudoh
PS: And while I'm at it, anybody noticed that Ys1E runs much smoother (in terms of choppy scrolling) in the original April 98 version. All other versions/updates has less smooth scrolling... ?!

No...I can't say I noticed anything choppy in the newer version. It runs pretty much 60 fps all the time. When I installed it on my parents' 233 MHz Pentium II, it was just a very tiny bit choppy. So, it shouldn't be choppy unless you have an ancient computer.
So, you tried a BIN/CUE? Have you tried using ISO+WAVs instead? It shouldn't make a difference, but it's something to try, I guess. Also, if you have such a thing, make sure "CD Digital" is unmuted and turned up in your software mixer. I think Daemon Tools defaults to that even if you have "use analog audio" checked

Thanks for the reply ! I will try the ISO/WAV idea...
Concerning the choppy scrolling: I wasn't talking about the framerate. The framerate is rock solid at 60Hz, but the scrolling of the screen exhibits some tearing effects and those are definitely more evident in the updated versions...

Well, I can't say I've noticed that either. Have you tried forcing V-sync?
