Hey guys.... just for your info, Ys eternal story does not play very well on the new slim PS2 model 52001 (using Swap Magic discs). My Ys eternal story limited edition got scratched but I thought my PS2 was broke which was the model 70012, so I bought a new PS2 which happened to be the 52001 model. Well needless to say, the system makes the game sound incredibly AWEFUL! I thought it was my new eternal story disc because it wasnt the limited edition. So I returned the new PS2 and got another one for a replacement and it did the SAME thing. (You can tell my frustration now!). So then I searched around for a used 70012 PS2 slim model and it works GREAT!! So.... do NOT use Ys eternal story with the NEW 52001 PS2 system, it SUCKS!!! What a guy has to go through to have his Ys!!!

Well, first of all -- don't use Swap Magic. It's terrible. If you want to play imports -- either get a modchip or run the games through your hard drive using HDLoader. Swap Magic is the worst possible option to use. Not only does it damage your system, but the actual Swap Magic software is crap. That's probably why you had problems.

52001 isn't that the big fat ps2? lol
yea, using swap magic is like killing your ps2. i haven't modded my ps2 and swap magic was something i looked into but the idea of forcing the tray to open was something i didn't want to play with. I've broken a few cd players by the way of pulling and jamming the tray.... oops! hee hee

You don't force anything open if youve got the slim design. It doesnt hurt it one bit. I mean you put the first disc in, close the lid, it goes on standby, you open the lid and you put the game in and hit the X button. There is no harm whatsoever. And its not hard to do. I have heard horror stories about people ruining their PS2 trying to put a MOD chip in. What a waste. and the 52001 is BRAND new SLIM design. However the hard drive solution does sound good

"Are you still using the DVD drive in your PS2? Get a hard drive!"
That's true. I've been using a hard drive for all my games for a long time now. HD Loader 0.7c is perfect. Loading times are nonexistant for most games.
Ruining your PS2 by installing a modchip? If you can't do it you shouldn't even attempt to. If you do it right nothing bad will happen.

HD Loader 0.7c is perfect. Loading times are nonexistant for most games. If it's perfect then why it isn't v1.0 or above? Because it doesn't exist. I'm talking about the hacked HD Loader here. The retail version (which is no longer for sale) is crap.

Question:
So the HD Loader can be used to play import games too?
And I think it says onthe web site that it requires a PS2 hard drive. I got the slim PS2 so is that a no no for me? Or can I use a USB Hard Drive (and convert my games to image files)?
And it's also mentioned that it needs a network adapter. I think it's built in the slim PS2 so i don't I need it:P

HD Loader can play imports, yes. The region protection is on the disc, and HD Loader doesn't use any discs. You will need a hard drive. The games are stored on it. On the slim PS2 you can use an extrnal USB hard drive with USB Extreme. (www.hdadvance.com). The compatibility is not as good, but it works.

I guess USB exteme is the one that's for the slim PS2. THANK YOU SALLY

USB Extreme plays imports. Yes. It will work on any PS2 (as long as you use a USB hard drive).

HD Loader is an old version that's why it never reached 1 (that's to my knowledge). The newer version of this thing is HDAdvance and it's at 3.0 now. You still need a modchip to play imports but if I understand how Seldane is doing things (by copying the game into the HD without the PS2) then you dont need a modchip. www.hdadvance.com/index.htm52001 is the slim one eh? I must be thinking about 50001 then...

No actually, HD Advance is HD Loader. Nothing has changed. They just stole the software and put their own name on it. HD Advance 3.0 = Hacked HD Loader 0.7c. By the way, I'm not using HD Advance any more. I've exploited my PS2 so I can run homebrew via the hard drive and the memory card. It's really neat. Let's make something clear here:
You need a modchip to play imports with those softwares you just mentioned?

Nope. I don't have a modchip. Not possible with version 12+ though (slim PS2).

Yeah, it works well -- just not as good as HD Loader (the compatibility isn't as good).

the slim ps2 can be moded... it's probably the usual popular modchip but from what I saw (my uncle has a moded slim ps2), it's quite annoying.
on the slim ps2, they cut a square from the left side of the ps2 to put a fan on it... and turning the ps2 off does not turn the fan off... so, you'll have to unplug it.

Yeah, it works well -- just not as good as HD Loader (the compatibility isn't as good). the question i should pose is the rate of data transfer is it fast enough that the ps2 isnt waiting for the usb drive to transfer the data. When using a hard drive, the data transfer is much faster than a CD/DVD, so the loading times are mostly greatly reduced (sometimes almost nonexistant). When using a USB hard drive, the transfer rate is about the same as when using a CD/DVD.
