Hello, there. This is my first time posting here. I just bought my copy of Ys I & II Complete and patched it with Nightwolve's translation. I'm very excited to get playing. I am curious about one thing, though. How long would all of you say the games are? Rather, how many hours of gameplay? I'm curious about how long for both games. Anyway, I thank you for your time.

Ys I is shorter than Ys II, but played together -- I'd say maybe ... 10-15 hours? I finished YsI/II COMPLETE in one day (well, one day, one evening and one morning). ...But then again ... I had played both games (earlier versions) a dozen times before.

That's mildly disappointing. I was hoping for a bit more than 10-15 hours out of the two games. Ah, well. I'm still excited. That and.. I'm generally slow when it comes to completing games, so I could probably tack another 5-10 hours onto that. =P

If it's you're first time, it'll take you a tad longer, I expect. I finished Ys I in about a day; Ys II took me an off-and-on-again week.

I didn't think I'd get much value from Ys games in general when I first bought them. But after 6+ months, I'm still playing and, more importantly, enjoying them. I don't know why. I've played them on all difficulty levels available to me and I've even gone back to the lower ones to play again. I think the simple, arcade-like action appeals to me.

Well, I just finished Ys I Complete about seven hours ago. In total, I believe it took me about ten or eleven hours. I'm meticulous about talking to people in towns and exploring, though. I do it all over and over. At least the first time through a game. I really, really enjoyed it.
I started up on Ys II Complete, but only got past the intro and beginning story text before I decided to save and get some sleep.
Anyway, compliments to Nightwolve and all the folks that worked on the english translation. If only all great games that don't see a stateside release could be handled with such care in their fan translation. I'd love to see you work on more projects! Especially Oath in Felghana.

Ys : Vanished Omens for Sega Master System took me 7-10 years to beat [Okay didn't play it full time...] The problem was I found out in 1997 I had exploited a ... problem which resulted in me never being able to beat the game! Yeah, in all that time I had never started a new game; thus I was Doomed in the Tower of the Doomed lol [The glitch was simply Running the Devil's Corridor, using potion to survive to the other side and being trapped. I had no clue about the hammer!] So I made it to the top, never being able to get into the door Fact was behind... er Dekt was behind. As for Ys 1 Complete that took less than 24 hours on Nightmare [first time!] I'll always be in that tower... *Dreaming*

Hehe, that's pretty funny to me since I remember something about Goban mentioning to Adol that he should not enter the tower because no one who enters the tower comes back alive. : ) How ironic that it actually happened to you via a glitch. Same thing happened to me on the MSX English translated version where the game would freeze on me in "Damn" Tower.
While on the subject of glitches, I remember a time when I first rented Secret of Mana and I fell off the bridge into the valley of the Mana sword below, but for some reason the one and only path to get to the sword in the stone that would initially start the adventure for me was blocked by shrubbary. I remember spending an entire hour trying to figure out what I was supposed to do and I never got it to work so I ended up taking the game back to the rental place the next day rather pissed. Eventually I purchased the game after hearing so many good reviews about it and telling myself that I would find a way to finish the game at any cost and later finding out during the second time I played it that I was able to walk right over to the sword and pick it up. lol
Anyway, back to the topic at hand, I played Ys I&II translated into English for the NES/Famicom first and each took probably around eight hours or so to complete. I got stuck in a few places but eventually I was able to figure it out. After that I got into Ys I&II Eternal which took a bit longer to complete, around 10-12 hours each, but that might be because I stopped often enough to look closer at the breathtaking backgrounds.
I'm still amazed everytime I see the backgrounds of the Esterian landscape from Darm Tower as you climb the floors, the one moonlit background as you travel accross the bridge to Rado's Annex, and the background of Esteria through the clouds of the floating Ys from the atop the bell tower of the Shrine of Solomon.

Ys : Vanished Omens for Sega Master System took me 7-10 years to beat Those kinds of games are always the best kind. I remember going back to all the Nintendo games I couldn't beat when I was a kid and trouncing them as a teenager. It just brings back memories.

i think the game i have spend more time in my life is tetris... is so damn fun and addictive... followed by megaman X6... pure madness... anyway it actually took me about 3 days to beat Ys I, i like to talk to everybody after every single story sequence or each time i took a new item... to see their reactions, naturally that´s what maded me lose so much time... Ys II lasted me an entire week and the idea of giving gifts to people drived me nuts...
