I have a shield, an armor and a sword, but Sara still tells me to come back when I'm properly equipped. Help!

I really dont know about the Nes Version but i Would say talk to Evereyone in town first, then go back and talk to her. Maybe you have to talk to Lair first??

What version are you playing and where can I download it?

Oh, dear God, I just found the problem. I hadn't actually equipped the stuff. I just saw the sword, armor and shield sitting in my inventory, and figured they were automatically equipped when I bought them. Didn't know you had to select them by pressing "down". That was kinda embarrassing.

Famicom version eh? Good stuff. At least for real fans of Ys 1 as the scenario is very different. Variation never hurts.

I just thought I'd give the Ys series a shot. Figured the easiest way to try them out is via fan-translated NES and SNES roms. Just finished Ys now. I liked it, but I had to use a walkthrough to find out where I was supposed to go or do next in some places. I hope the newer games are more "user-friendly" like that.
Will probably move on to Ys II tomorrow. From what I've gathered, that game's very similar to Ys I..?

Bah, too much back and forth in that game. It felt like half of the playtime was just going back and forth, back and forth in those sewers. >_< Don't know what version you played, but I really didn't enjoy the NES version.
Ys >>>>>>>>>>> Ys II
Moving on to Ys III for the SNES now.

I agree that Ys 1 is much, much better than Ys 2. Ys 2 is easily the worst Ys game to me (well, after YsF) because it is just so annoying to play. The Ice Ridge is so boring, and the Salmon Shrine is even worse. Ys 2 COMPLETE, on the other hand, is great, much better than Ys 1 COMPLETE. But when comparing the original versions of Ys 1 and 2, Ys 1 wins. A lot.

I've never said any of that. You're confusing me with Paranoia Dragon who said "They took my least favorite game in the Ys series with Ys III, and made it into possibly my most favorite with YsF!" I've never said I like YsF. From the very beginning I said couldn't get into it, and that I was very disappointed in it because it was basically just YsVI with new dungeons. I do not hate YsF, because after all - it is an Ys game. That's why I just said "it is my least favorite." This opinion has never changed, and it never will. I can understand why people like it, they like the gameplay, they like the music, etc. I, on the other hand, do not like the music - or the gameplay. To me, this is basically Devil May Cry disguised as Ys, and I definitely do not like those hack 'n slash games. Edit: I love Ys III and I think it is much, much better and more enjoyable than YsF. Edit #2: I am known for changing my opinion on pretty much everything. All the time. I've always been like this. Ask anybody. MP83 in particular.

Well, this topic certainly sparked more discussion than I expected.
I'm only at the Ilvern Ruins in Ys III so far. Is it just me, or are the two first bosses in the game ridiculously hard for a first dungeon?

So my observations were correct! Wyrdy hates everything on principle, Seldane hates everything to rankle people.
