I'm trying to play this on my laptop (acer widescreen....1280x800), but the image is stretched horizontally like some PSP games are. Does anyone know how to change the image display? Its pretty unfair for such an expensive game not to have a way to configure the screen ratio or at least put it in windowed mode.
Are Ys Origin/Oath like this too?
BTW I have Ys I & II complete.
Thanks for your time.

Some widescreen monitor can maintain 4:3 aspect ratio with black bars. Some video cards can force it. Some can't be forced.
For monitors: check for such option in its OSD menu about maintaining aspect ratio.
For ATI cards: Click "Advanced" button in Display Properties > Settings tab, then click on "Displays" tab and check "Preserve wide aspect ratio on attached displays. I don't have Catalyst Control Center installed on my laptop, but I'm sure there's a similar option there.
For nVidia: If you use DVI output, you will see a menu for "Digital Flat Panel Settings" somewhere after the "Advanced" button, where you can try to adjust monitor scaling.
If all of these fails, your monitor doesn't support internal scaling, and your only option is to run the game in windowed-mode.

If you can't do it with your video card software, try Powerstrip. It can do anything. It can also ruin your computer, so be careful when using it.
