You need the Black Pearl from Zava (room to be unlocked with the Silver Pendant, far eastern part of the South shrine).

Perhaps you need to talk to the goddess statues again once you have both the pearl and the idol? I am not really sure on that one since it always worked for me.

1. There will be bugs in the game regardless of the method you use to play it (real DOS hardware, FreeDOS, DOSbox, virtualisation, etc). When I used DOSbox I had the game's usual problems including new problems associated with DOSbox itself. This, however, was when the DOSbox developers weren't even aware that the game existed. They may have done some tweaking specific for this game to correct those problems, since then. 2. I think he disappeared without a trace. I know about some Koreans who played it way back then, but it turns out he was not one of them. 3. No it is not available anywhere in the world. Except here. 4. 5. I haven't been around much so I am not up to speed on these things. 6. Kinda. Years ago I found a blog from someone involved in the development of the game, but it seems to have disappeared. Another person who worked on this game is here: www.winbee.org/ . Here he is talking about the game: winbee.egloos.com/50931567. I haven't been there so someone else will have to deal with this.

I really think less emphasis should be put on the game being buggy as hell... reading here or, say, HG101's article leads to think Ys 2 Special is an unplayable mess when it is definitely not the case. As it stands, it is as stable a game as you can get... no freezing ever, one minor sound bug, the odd graphical glitch here and there... we have seen much worse! Put down any difficulties with the game to DOSBox or alternative solutions to play on recent machines. Well, GS stumbled on a case where he had to reload a saved game so that an event would be triggered... but again I doubt he is playing on a native DOS machine. As for the soundtrack, the definitive package is here: raborak.com/saladedemais/Ys-2-special-game-recordingIf I am not mistaken, GS is planning to post his awesome maps on VGMaps.com.

Here it is, the last map, but I still have to refine the maps and fined all the hidden places before I can upload it on VGMaps.com, so I am still not completely done with the project. I hope all of you are using the maps to help me fined all the hidden stuff so we can get this project fully compete. Anyway I like to give a big thanks to all of you that helped make this thing happen.(if I left anyone out sorry) Salamander FM-77 MP83 Yotaka Red Hairdo and most of all Groenege (for translating and guiding) Thank you all, WE did it. I think I mentioned this before, maybe someone who knows Korean, could translate the dialogue in the towns/villages. This could offer some clues on possible side-quests to filling in the portion of the map in the canal. After all, seems like there are a lot of items in the game that have no use whatsoever. What I tried to do before was equip each item and talk to all the villagers and repeat, hoping to trigger an event. Very tedious. Superb work by the way, very quick and devoted to your work. I'm Salamander by the way

Compiling the information into a website for the world to see that this game and potential translation project does exist out there is actually not a bad idea. If anyone wants to take this on, I'll provide the web space.
I'd love to see this game translated, as well as Xak I & II PCE and Wonder Wander.

You mean Wander Wonder. Easy mistake, I know. Yep, especially when the katakana is the same for both as well. : 0 ワンダー・ワンダー uwanda uwanda -Thomas

I loaded it today, took a while to get sound working. I needed first to boot the SETUP.EXE file, and choose AdLib, which was tricky in Korean, but thankfully there was English for the names. Otherwise it was without sound. The game runs fine at 3000 cycles, so fingers crossed no crashing. But! I notice that when I die the music suddenly just stops as Adol spins round. Is this normal? Did anyone else get some kind of death ditty, or it silence? Also, the menus (F1-F6 buttons) to change settings and stuff, are agonisingly slow. Is this also normal? Since the game itself is quite speedy, especially when you change the speed setting to "fast". I seem to have sound working, so is there anything else I need to know regarding emulation? I'm using D-Fend Reloaded V0.9.3 with DOSBox 0.73. The best I can suggest is to set up the emulator to 6000 or 6500 cycles. It was either F11, F12, Alt+F11, Alt+F12, CTRL+F11 or CTRL+F12. Also, I personally wouldn't play on the "Fast" setting. xD It's not exactly fast, but rather "unplayable". Also, yup, the death scene works that way: Adol dies, spins around while music is muted, then a game over music plays (if I recall correctly, that is).

You need to be at least level 16 to stand a chance IIRC. Many bosses in the first half of the game require major grinding.

You should be more than able to defeat the gargoyle at this level. I do not remember much about equipment... did you sell the iron ore to the smithy?
