I used to have both of the Falcom classics, I liked them they seemed harder for some reason if i recall. i have the soundtracks on my MP3 player and i loved the opening sequence for Ys 2 the artwork was very good. by the way is there a place where i can go that you have all the Ys libary links compiled? I would like to see all the reviews and stuff that you have amassed.

My goal is to make a seperate page for EVERY Falcom game ever made! INCLUDING different releases!

You must be working on it now because it keeps saying "website not responding."

Now it's working fine, don't know what happened! Thanks! I'm gonna kick myself for not playing this, even after I got the music too.

Oh I sure do. I've tried to make the template appealing, but I just can't quite make it. Would you try to make a nicer one for me?

Saturn Ys II is still my favourite version... The style of graphics and music just appeal to me more than any other version... Particularly the Saturn version of the music to Solomon Shrine ^_^

Well, I don't know how to explain it... They've got a really nice fluid feel to them. The graphics are very clean, if that makes any sense.
The arrangements for all of the tracks just seem to me to fit the individual scenarios in which they're played as well as they possibly could... At times during other versions of both Ys Books I and II, there are occasional moments when they don't quite do so - one particular bugbear of mine is the Eternal version of Solomon Shrine. I ended up just switching it for the Saturn version, and even though it skipped because the timing was out, it just felt right!
Not to mention, Adol's look changes depending on the equipment that he's wearing - something sorely missed in the latest versions of these games 8~(
I couldn't recommend these versions more, so I beg you to try and get your hands on them!

SSF is getting better and better. Interestingly, only the latest version is up-to-scratch enough to run the Falcom Classics CDs! However, it runs them near perfectly (on a good PC!). I've made use of this to get some Xanadu action in, as my poor old Saturn is dying. I'll see if I can find a link for you... Edit: et voila!. The alphas at the bottom might not be hugely stable. I think I was using 007 Beta R9 for Xanadu. Give them a whirl 8)

Old website I made a long time ago. Contains screenshots: Click! Also, Cassini 4 (which has been taken off the Internet because of its embedded Saturn BIOS) runs both Falcom Classics 1 and 2. I have uploaded it here.

Is that particular emulator any good compared to some that claim to be better? I Haven't bothered with Saturn Emulation, but I've been known to change my mind every now and then.

Saturn emulation is terrible. It "works", but that's about it. It is definitely not comparable to the real thing, unlike some other systems that are more or less emulated perfectly.
The compatibility rate is pretty low. Lots of (most?) games won't work at all. Some games work okay, but there are always issues.
Take Falcom Classics II, for instance - Ys II works, but the music is messed up. Asteka II works, but the "scene pictures" are completely blue (and this is a point and click game!), rendering the game completely unplayable.

Yeah, this is true. Although I'm not sure about Cassini (from what I heard, it was just a rip of GiriGiri, and while it was the best at some point it's since been outpaced - I didn't even know it was still being supported! But I'm guessing it is). However, SSF is constantly being updated and is getting better very quickly. Like In the space of one update, which was about 2 months, Xanadu from Falcom Classics I went from being literally unplayable to perfectly emulated. Sadly, like Seldane said, neither Ys game is perfect yet, but about the only quibble are a couple of control issues, but mainly the sound, which is bad.
Having said that, I haven't tried out the latest version of SSF yet. And still, it should only be a few months away from being fine.
I think these days most games work - it's just that they don't work well XD

When I bought FCC (Falcom Classics Collection), it didn't arrive at my house. Somethnig just happened (The product was delivered somewhere else OR it has been lost or something). Anyway, the "boss" from the site I bought "kinda apologized" and offered me FC1 (for the same price! Thieves! >:l). Luckily I had the option to ask for my money back, but it will take some time to get it back... Anyway, I bought a Sega Saturn ONLY for FC1 and FC2 (but since no game is worth a VG alone, I bought the Rockman 8 and Dracula X for it too). Though I played FC1 before, but without the OST. Beated Ys I, but without the musics...yeah, "sucks" that way. ='( I have to get both FC1 and FC2 somehow... Oh yeah, also I gotta say: The FC2 Ys artwork is indeed VERY BEATIFUL! omg, Lilia there was the most pretty of all other versions. Not to mention, Adol's look changes depending on the equipment that he's wearing - something sorely missed in the latest versions of these games 8~(] Yeah, I tohught about that too. The Saturn Ys versions have that quality. Same goes for Ys VI.

When I bought FCC (Falcom Classics Collection), it didn't arrive at my house. Dude, that sucks >_< But both FCs are worth having, for sure! 5 games (some of them better than others!)... awesome! Man, there are so many awesome games for the Saturn it's unbelievable. This is just the very tip of the iceberg. lol yup!!

Falcom Classics 1 - Dragon Slayer, Xanadu and Ys are almost perfectly emulated in Cassini - which works a lot better than Giri Giri.

From what I remember being told about it, I always thought that for some reason, because Cassini was ripped from Giri Giri, there was a limit to what Cassini could do. I don't know why :S I may have just heard things from people and made that all up >_<
I guess it's going strong!
Have you compared it with SSF? I do know that a lot of people prefer SSF, but not having used the latest versions of Cassini, I'm in no position to compare.

So, I decided to bring back this thread, because: Falcom Classics RULES! By the way: That's one strange Dogi, isn't it? xD Yet cool. In Ys I, that Rock boss from Darm Tower is pretty hard. I got a friend who stopped playing it because of that boss. (I'll solve that for him. xD) Also it's really cool that there's both a "Saturn Mode" and "Original Mode". In "Saturn Mode", the border is red-colored and there's a Goddess near the HP too. And Adol can run diagonally as well. Also character artworks show up when you talk to important people in the game, such as Feena or Dark Fact. And it's interesting that you receive the Treasure Chest Key from Feena. Now, in "Original Mode", the border is in its classic green color without many fancy things. Adol can't run diagonally (but he can still either run or walk) and there aren't character portraits when talking to some of them. And I find it to be very interesting that you don't have to save Feena to get the Treasure Chest Key, but you find it on a treasure chest not too far away from the chest containing the Silver Bell, like in some of the earlier Ys I versions. Also! There something REALLY suspicious in the floating platform that Dark Fact is standing in, in that version. There are some things/ words/ letters/ symbols written on it. They seem to have some sort of meaning. You can't analyse them looking at this picture, but it's good enough to at least notice it. If you play it and get to this point, you'll see it rather clearly. It's misterious. Falcom Classics II and its Ys II also rules a lot. They improved it so much after FC1. Adol has a specific running animation, and the running feels pretty smooth. Amazing artwork. Voice acting. Incredible anime intro. If you beated and have a complete Ys I Saturn save file, you'll unlock scenes from Ys I Saturn for you to watch, but this time they're voice-acted. And many, many other things. Also it takes an eternity to maximize Adol's level, because max. exp. was changed from 65535 to 99999, and when you have about 70000 exp., the strongest enemy will give you only 2 exp. points. It takes MANY hours to maximize out. Wow. I wonder why I suddenly had that urge to talk about these two amazing remakes. They are (one of) the best!
