So I finished Ys I on the first Falcom Classics disc tonight, so it was naturally only natural that I would want to immediately send Adol to Ys and at least check out Ys II right? Well, holy crap! Never did I expect such a good old-fashioned anime sequence to introduce the game. It was amazing...
So amazing, that I'm glad that someone else had already ripped the video, because I was going to do the deed myself if need be. If you haven't already seen it, you really ought to check it out. You'll be glad you did. : )

Yeah, these anime sequences are really outstanding. But there's even more to it: Once you finish FC's Ys I, when you play FC2's Ys II, you will have an "Omake" option or something. It enables you to see again 3 important scenes from Ys I, but voiced acted. And there's also another neat secret: if you insert your FC2 disc into your computer, you can get many Ys II Wallpapers in a PERFECT resolution, as well as get some .mp3 files containing in-game music. FC2's Ys II = rules A "Must Play" for any Ys fan.

Well if someone here ends up picking FC 1 up and they get the bonus disk, do uncle Justin a favor, and PM an ISO to him. He is very cross that his came without it.

Do you mean the soundtrack disc? Mine came with it. If that was what you were looking for I can see about ripping it for you sometime.

Hehe, don't thank me yet. I just noticed it actually is a "Special Falcom CD" that is in Sega Saturn format and not just a soundtrack cd. I'll need to figure out a way to make an ISO of that specific format first. At any rate, I could always see if I can record the four movies from it.

Use CloneCD and you will create a perfect image of your disc. Don't worry, it is really simple.

I just found a minty FC2 at a local Bookmans for $8.00! Haven't popped it into my Saturn yet, but I've been enjoying the bonus music CD on my way to work ;P -ud

Oh I didn't see your message until now Red Hairdo. I'll be sure to look into that. I still need to see if I can make a backup copy of the bonus disc that came with FC I.
Thanks!

If you've played the Complete games, there's no need to play the Eternal ones. Ys I Complete is far superior to Ys I Eternal (only differences are that Ys I Complete has an FMV intro done by Makoto Shinkai, whereas Ys I Eternal has an intro comprised of mostly still pictures, and the soundtrack in Ys I Eternal is nowhere near as good as the soundtrack in Ys I Complete), and Ys II Eternal is IDENTICAL to Ys II Complete. The original Ys Eternal opening fmv comes with Complete anyway. It's in the Ys1_win folder as "opening old" It's not a movie file though, it's an application, so you can only watch it, you can't replace the original file with it. Also I found the english version below on youtube, and I'm guessing it's an original, since mine was never English with Nightwolves patch.

Nightwolve's english patch does translate it. xD It translated mine, at least.
That music in the original Ys ETERNAL is slightly different though. And I'm not sure about the intro movie, as I have never had the chance to play Ys ETERNAL, ironically.
Anyway, MP83 and I discovered something quite interesting between Falcom Classics II and its LE counterpart. (Those who regularly check the Spam thread already know. xD) Essentially, the PC-exclusive content is different.

It translated my opening as well with no problems.

I really, really like that ETERNAL-exclusive music. Well, not actually ETERNAL-exclusive since there's that file that comes with COMPLETE, but that is only the MIDI/GM version of the ETERNAL music, whereas Ys ETERNAL also has CD-DA, MIDI/GS and MIDI/SC-88 versions of that same music, all of which I find to be much superior than the MIDI/GM version. EDIT: Oh, whoops. Oddly enough, COMPLETE uses yet another arrangement, which is a bit strange. Well, anyway, I still favor ETERNAL's over it. Also, I really wish this very music was present in other Ys I versions. =/ It's such a masterpiece, it's one of my all-time favorite Ys musics. And I wonder if I should buy a new Saturn sometime, despite having already finished both FC games. Hrm...

Thanks for posting that! I was always interested in seeing that. Apparently, they took about half of it and stuck it on the front of the Ys I&II Vista version box.... Now you got me wondering what the CD-DA music from Eternal sounds like...grrr

Hey guys.
Currently playing through the Saturn-version of Ys 2 and I've sort of hit a wall. Is there a trick to destroying the ice blocks in Noltia that I've forgotten about? My fireballs just bounce off. I've only played through Complete (plus the ports) and the TG16-version and I can't remember having any trouble, which makes this even more annoying.
I'm hoping you can help me out here. I love the latter parts of Ys II. It's just such a slow, slooooow starter.

I think you need to level up.

Hmmm, actually sounds like something that Ys would make you do. I'll give it a try next time.

Yes, you need to level up a bit: once you get up to a certain level, Adol's fireballs become bigger in size and IIRC it's when each fireball becomes able to deliver multiple hits instead of just 1. With the bigger fireballs the ice blocks will melt. I have had that problem in the past as well exceptionally when playing that version of Ys II, but I think it's possible that level requirement might exist in other classic Ys II versions. AMAZING version of Ys II by the way. It provided me a lot of fun.

Worked like a charm! Loved the little melting animation btw. ^^ I'm enjoying this version so far. Although it's hard not to miss (and be confused by the absence of) certain additions made in Complete, the Saturn-version has some very nice additions of it's own. Loving the run button!
