I was thinking, what would have to happen to overdub the voice tracks in DoY? I know you need the ADPCM ripping program etc.. I'll talk with Nightwolve, I think it would be cool if fans could play certain parts and record their voices...

There was a guy who started to do it, but it stopped. There must be a thread somewhere telling all about it. Anyway, I think it was a friend of NightWolve's, so you can write him asking. I'm all for somebody doing it, after all this time.

Yeah I remember this project was also underway and kinda slipped off the radar. It would be damn cool, but I heard its hard to organize properly.

Even if the voice actors were crappy, it would still fit. Most of the games from that era had terrible acting, but it really added to its charm.

I believe the Ys 4 translation pack came with the script that you could read what all the dialogues say.( it was kinda annoying cause you always had to leave the emulator to read it ) What I think would be a good idea would to add subtitles to the bottom of the screen whenever someone is talking, but I don't think there is any way in doing that. I would like to try voice acting at least once in my life if you would let me, just need to find a recording machine. My voice might be a little silly but I could play an obnoxious villian , and would like to play the voice for Adol(I don't care if he doesn't talk, I'll make him. )Also some friends and siblings wish to be involved. MP83 2708 posts, how come I never see you ?

But seriously if I and some friends makes some voices and you guys make some voices too will there be someone willing to receive and hack the game?

One of the problems we faced in the project, was different people, had different quality mic's. Justus ultimately wanted to do it in his studio, but, there was no way he could get everyone to fly over to(Ohio??) his location. I think we had most of the lines recorded though. I know we never finished the narration, as I believe I was going to end up being the narrator IIRC, doing in impression of Alen Oppenheimer's narration from Ys 1 & 2. Another problem is that some of the voice acting, is over music tracks, & there is alteast one music track, that is not featured on any known Ys soundtrack, so Justus was thinking of remaking that song himself, which would deffinitly be a task. That song, is the ending song, where the old lady finishes telling a story about Adol. I would love to finish this project, but, I just don't think it's going to happen. We need someone in charge of it, that can except, maybe atleast slight differences in mic quality. I actually purchased a mic, & amp, & stand, & a few other things, just for this project(though, thankfully, I have my own studio of sorts, so, it'll all go to use with Frozen Utopia's games). Actually, if everyone could end up getting the same set up I have, that'd be the best, but, I don't see that happening either. Oh, as for subtitles, IIRC, in general, it's possible, but, I think it depends from game to game. I know, for the Far East of Eden Ziria project, Chris(I think it was Chris that's doing it) is using the regular cd version, rather then the Super CD version. I think, it's a matter of much is stored in memory durring an event of adpcm....I can't totally recall, but, I also believe it's easier in general, to store the subtitle data in a cd game that has been converted to super cd, because the extra space isn't already taken up.

I remember when NW released the patch for DoY he said it was impossible to put subtitles in that game, I guess because of lack o f space. I don't know if it's entirely true, but he must have known what he was talking about. That's a pity 'cause subtitles would be the best solution in my opinion.

A talented programmer such as Malducci or Chris Covell could probably pull it off somehow.

I'd have to ask Malducci again, as I don't quite remember, but, it seems like it was some sort of problem with memory....I think he said, that for some games, it can be stored in the adpcm buffer, but, if that's taken up, then there's no space. That might be the case for Ys 4. I'll have to ask him if he's ever looked into Ys 4 inparticular.

That was surprisingly extremely well done and very professional sounding!
And yes, that original project is dead, however I believe that a lot of what was originally dubbed was actually inserted back into the game with Nightwolve's help not too long ago. It would be nice if some of that content could remain in-tact and used, especially for characters that already had their lines completed. I remember joining that voice project and auditioning for Goban and Keith and I remember Justus thought I should be Keith.

Yeah, I'd definitely be up for auditioning for a character again, though it might be a little while before I could devote any real time to it. But yeah, an Ys fan project like this, I've gotta help out in some way at least. : )
Great job with everything so far!
