Thansk to VoidZankantou of Gamefaq message boards, I was able to progress farther. What you need to do is go to the West area of the underground passage and you will rise up outside to a hill. Go up the hill and examine the tree with brown leafs. A hidden hideout will open. Talk to everybody in here and now you can get past those guards in the Northern West area of the Underground passage. After you beat this section, you will be back in the hidden hideout. Talk to everybody again and then go to the Northern East area of the Underground passage for a boss fight. Both of these Northern areas have people you have to guide out without having them killed. Next, after talking to everybody in the hidden hideout, there is a new dungeon above the hills all the way East. You need to use all 4 elements to enter. The area has you fight 4 bosses from earlier in the game without saving and then you get an event item. After I did this I went back to the alchemist tree which is located in the Northern West section of the underground passage. A bunch of people were imprisoned to this tree so I slashed it and rescued them. This is where I am currently stuck. Most of the people around Kefin have disappeared, even the shop people are gone. The remaining guards near the castle entrance just give me nonsense text that let me go nowhere. I will find out what to do soon. I hear there is 2 different endings to this game. You get one by beating a secret dungeon and another by not beating the secret dungeon. I have a feeling that the dungeon with the 4 bosses from earlier in the game is the secret dungeon. I should finally beat this game very soon. I'll post more info as soon as I progress.

Ok, I beat the game. What I did wrong is not go back to the North East Corridor for a second time. This dungeon has a second part and its huge. This is the last dungeon of the game. The end boss is quite enjoyable. Also the ending is long with tons of dialogue. There is a nice animated sequence of Kefin being destroyed. The credits has "The Theme of Adol" playing with gameplay of each boss you fight. I must of got the second ending cause I beat the secret dungeon that I mentioned earlier. As far as what the differences in endings are, I have no idea since I saved after I beat the secret dungeon. I cant go back and and replay the end part of the game cause I only made one save file. As far as unlockables, I found that there was a gallery for YsIII, YsIV, and YsV. Within this gallery you can access all the BGM from all three games. Looks like Squaresoft74 was right on the money about all three OST's being on this game cause they are. All three BGM's are labeled in English. I dont see the option to play Ys V as Ys V Expert. Looks like I didnt meet certain conditions. What those conditions are, I have no idea. Anyhow, if anybody needs help getting through this game, I will be glad to help.

Examine the trunk. You should see an exclamation mark over Adols head. If nothing is happening then try to talk to everybody back at the town. Also, make sure you have beat the boss of the South Tower before examining the tree.

Hi, Sorry for bumping a dead post but I need some help. I Pm'ed/emailed Sideshow for help but didn't hear anything back yet, so I thought I'd post here to see if anyone can help. I'm playing through the PS2 version of Ys V and I'm stuck in the exact same place that Sideshow and LordDarm did in the South Tower area of Kefin. I've been following VoidZankantou's FAQ, (and looked at all of the posts in here) but I didn't see if anyone knew specifically as to what you had to do to be able to get past the guards to be able to enter the tower. (at least in the FAQ, and Sideshow's post skipped over how you get into the South Tower) I talked to the lady in the house at the entrance and picked the top option, then after that didn't work I talked to everyone in town 2-3 times (and the house lady again and again) still nothing. So I'm at a loss as to what to do...I hope soneone can help me out, I know I'm almost done playing and would really like to finish the game off. (This and Origins are the only two I haven't finished yet.) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hm, sorry, I didn't get at that point, even though I was seriously playing this game an year ago (and I still plan to finish it).
Aren't there more than one town you have access to, by the way? ... Just trying to help. =s Also welcome. xD

Hm, sorry, I didn't get at that point, even though I was seriously playing this game an year ago (and I still plan to finish it). Aren't there more than one town you have access to, by the way? ... Just trying to help. =s Also welcome. xD Thankyou for the greeting. No I can't access anywhere else at the moment, east is where I came from, and I can't access the tree with the hidden dungeon until after I defeat the south tower, north has those infinite respawning enemies that block your way until the south tower is completed, so that is a no go as well, and I can't remember what was blocking me from going west, but nothing happened when I went that way either, I think it was just a empty area, with nothing I could find to do there. Since I don't read Japanese, I was following the FAQ pretty closely and for the most part was doing fine until I got to that point. Since he was pretty vague on what to do as well I got stuck. I took some pictures of the conversation with the woman in the house in the south end of town if anyone is able to translate what she says I'll post them and hopefully they will help figure out what needs to be done to figure this out. Edit: For clarification, this is when you select the top option (which I assume is that you'll agree to help) if someone needs a pic of that option dialog I can post that as well. Here they are, posted the entire conversation, sorry for the quality, best I could do. i39.tinypic.com/qnqjja.jpgi41.tinypic.com/2z8ckmc.jpgi39.tinypic.com/v8pr3c.jpgi39.tinypic.com/2vuwjud.jpgi41.tinypic.com/24xjp1y.jpg

Hm, if I was you, I would e-mail the person who wrote the guide about it. I've already done that in the past, and that always worked out for me. Anyway, it could be good for you to post a picture of the option dialog box. I know, like, NOTHING of japanese, but basic stuff like "agree to help" and "refuse" are things I can reckognize at most times.

OK, will do, I can't email the author, because he didn't include any contact info that I know of, at least not in the FAQ, and Sideshow didn't remember how he did it anymore (he emailed me). Straight from the FAQ: "Contact-- Post on message board on Ys V if you have any questions or trouble. I'll check once a month until the end of the year 2006." I guess I missed it by a bit. Ok here ya go, the first two are what she says after you initially talk with her including the two options to answer. The third picture is when I answered the second response and here is her answer (it was only one dialog box) Hope these make some headway into finding out what to do next. i41.tinypic.com/25ui5u0.jpgi40.tinypic.com/2sbk9ip.jpgi39.tinypic.com/2im58ch.jpgThanks for trying to help I really appreciate it. Edit: Red Hairdo, do you know of any board members who might be able to take a look and translate these pictures, (or at the very least tell me what the jist of them is) I PM'ed FM-77 for translation help, since from what I've read of his posts he can read Japanese fairly well, but I'm not sure if he'll answer it soon since he hasn't been on in two months. If we can figure this out I intend to put a post on the Gamefaqs answers section for others who get stuck as well as the answer will be here for people (like me) who got stuck and come here hoping to find an answer.

Thanks to the guy who wrote the Ys Origin guide I found a website with a full Ys V PS2 walkthrough, (and all the other games as well) only problem its in Japanese too and the online translators (Google is what I used) don't see to be able to help me make sense of it enough to help out, here's the site in case someone can look it over and maybe answer what I need to do. homepage1.nifty.com/sugimo/falcom/Ys/ys5guide2.htm

Well frell me.....it worked. The how-to in a moment but the walkthrough states this... "# Blonde-haired girl said fountain in front "of the south tower had gone to the girl with the Ligier" # 南の塔へ向かう地下通路を降りたらすぐの階段です。 It is an underground passage降RITARA immediate steps towards the south tower. 町の東西の出入り口どちらからでも行けます Get it from both the east and west entrances of the town " Basically makes no sense, however, I tried this. I left through the east exit/entrance from town into the dungeon, walked left toward the west exit/entrance back into town and walaa a cutscene with Terra and her family appears, Terra talks to herself, sneaks into another room and gets captured, end cutscene. Back with Adol, he is in an area behind the South Tower, talk with the guards who rebuke him and then you leave, a man with blue hair approaches and talks with Adol about making a distraction, he runs off and blows something up and the guards leave to investigate, you can now enter the south tower....(for cryin' out loud) If you didn't read Japanese, how in blazes do they expect anyone to be able to figure that out (almost as maddening as the metal gear 1 maze or the zelda 1 maze...grrrr ) Anyway, I really appreciate the help Red Hairdo, I hope this helps explain the unknown part of the game, that no one explained very well. I'll try and post this over at Gamefaqs as well just in case someone else wants to play this with no knowledge of Japanese and gets stuck, since the FAQ doesn't cover this (IMO, very tricky to figure out) section very well. Onward and upward. Cheers.

Oh... Good you figured it out. XD Yes, that isn't something I'd ever have figured out just by looking at minor japanese words. Also, I'll eventually get at that part as well, one day. So thanks, as well. Also, just so you know, no, FM-77 has no japanese knowledge at all. XD Wyrdwad does quite a lot, however, as well as some other members (adoru the-not-so-red, nunuu, Varion, darusgrey, omgfloofy and some others I don't know). Hooray. xD Feel free to visit us anytime again, by the way. xD
