This is a joke right? Some kind of sick joke. What in the hell is Konami doing?
They've taken the beautifully hand-drawn sprites of Ys 6. The monsters, the characters, even Adol... Perfect looking hand drawn sprites and animated in a fashion which bring a new level to 2d graphics entirly.
And have butchered them and turned them into 3d models... Go and look at some of the original movies for Ys 6 and screen shots on Rpgamer and compare them with the latest mockery. Originally it was ONLY the bosses that were done in 3d, however the bosses were done perfectly and beautifully as you'll see in the movie and screen shot below.. You'll see exactly what I am talking about... Why Konami? For the love of god why? first the music and now the graphics? Why fix whats not broken? why change something that doesn't need to be changed? How can you butcher a game like this? To hell with Konami's butchery of Ys 6, Im going to get the original import and play that...
3d games are 3d for a reason. 2d games are 2d for a reason.
First I hear they are changeing the music and today I see the latest addition of screen shots to see beautifully animated and hand-drawn sprites which bring a new level of 2d into gaming, butchered into ugly looking 3d models.
What drugs are they smoking?
Some one please tell me the PC version will also be released in NA and not suffer the same fate as the PS2 port.

I'm not sure why. Maybe Konami didn't like the music for some reason. Also, it's being ported by the USA division of Konami (Konami Digital Entertainment). And my guess would be the US product managers heard the music, didn't like it because they don't appreciate Japanese music(and assumed American gamers wouldn't either), and decided to make their own music and since the PS2 version is being made in the US, they could even have hired a US composer to do the new music (yuck). IGN stated in one of their Ys E3 2004 articles, that the PS2 version will have all new orchestral music. Also, on Konami's site, www.konami.com/Ys , it mentions "Original music composed specifically for the PS2 version of the game". Konami's latest press release states: www.konami.com/usa/press/ys051204.html"Further enhancing the gameplay is the moving musical score that was specifically composed to match the majesty of the game." If it was a remixed/rearranged version of the soundtrack, it wouldn't be ALL new and it wouldn't be called 'original'. I understand there are new scenes/areas in the game so they would probably need new music for that, but if that's all they are doing, I don't think they would have gone on and said "Further enhancing the gameplay is the moving musical score that was specifically composed to match the majesty of the game." I think they would have chosen other words. Also, only one site (IGN, and it's console subsites), mentioned remixed music, and that was back when we first found out Konami was porting Ys. That was a while ago - it could have been a misinterpretation, or the plans could have changed since then. The newest news is going to be more accurate than the older news. Yes, I know Hudson soft was responsible for the music on the Turbo/PC Engine versions of Ys. That music was fantastic. But that music was still Ys music. It was still true to the original music. I like the Ys Symphony CDs too. So I wouldn't mind Ys VI music rearranged to orchestra. But I wouldn't like it if the music was TOTALLY new (like the news suggests). THAT's what I'm worried about

Yeah I see what you mean, the PC version definately looks less 3D, and the character models are the superdeformed type that we've gotten used to. But whatever. We're lucky we're getting an Ys game at all. There is still the PSP version, maybe that will be closer to the PC version.

Also, I think the textures of the ground aren't as detailed. They seem blurry compared to the original.
I saw a high quality video of the E3 PS2 trailer, and the one clip that shows footage from the new game doesn't look too bad(then again it was only one clip). Since TV screens are blurrier than computer monitors, it might not look too bad. I'm still anxious over what else Konami might have butchered that we haven't seen/heard yet.

I think these screenshots looks alright except for Adol because I'm used to a short stubby character and now I see an actual person with arms and legs and flappy armor...
It doesn't look as bad as you people say...
