I'm running WinXP (German) with all regional settings set to Japanese. However, everytime I try to install the game I get this error message (in Japanese of course):
"Failed to create Folder, installation cancelled. C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\my name\Application Data\Falcom\YS6_WIN"
What the heck is going on here?... Anyone?

There is only one version - japanese. Anyhoo, if your exe is corrupt, your game is downloaded, right? An original game would never have corrupt files unless the CD is severely scratched.

Nope. No translation. Sorry. But make sure to check the PS2 version that will be released (IN ENGLISH) in february!

There is a patch.... But I recommend against it - sure, it allows you to play without booting in japanese mode, but it removes all the text from the game and replaces it with nonsense. Even if you can't read japanese, that nonsense is annoying. The "translation" you speak about is the same patch, but it only translates item names and it is not really needed. But if you really want it, it's right here. Note that you will need the latest patch from Falcom, you can download it from here.

If you try installing it to a different directory..
C:\Program Files\FALCOM
For example. That should work.

Maybe nekoma's name or path has some characters not handled correctly under japanese mode. (like the umlaut)

YsVI doesn't work with Windows XP SP2. At least not non-japanese versions of Windows. The only solution is to uninstall SP2.

Not so. I'm on English SP2 and it works perfectly. Is that so? Well, I guess I was wrong then - my reply was based on someone else's problem (it worked before SP2 and did not work with it installed). As for myself, I don't have the game installed anymore so I don't know if it works or not with SP2.

did you look for an "application data" folder under your "Documents and settings/your_user_name" folder.
winXP SP2 doesn't always install that for some weird reason.
thnx to Edkun btw

I will just copy and paste a REALLY old post! Seems like you've got the same problem as TallenD. Read this quote. Hello! Yes, that can be a problem with YsVI. But first, use Windows XP. Then, go to your control panel, and go to "Regional controls", or whatever it may be called. Then go to the last part of it, where you choose language, then pick Japanese, it will ask you to install the Japanese language support, just click yes (it's about 200MB), you'll need the Windows XP CD here. When it is installed, restart your computer, and run Ys. Tell me if it worked out, and if you're TallenD, post as the member instead of a guest! Just a suggestion, though. Good luck!

Well, i still cant play, i've done this: -Extracted the files of the 1.1.0.8 patch on another pc an placed them in the Falcom/Ys... directory. -Patched it to the english version. -I had already installed the japanese things in the Regional Settings. -Tryed the win 98 compatibility. -i have this folder: C:\Documents and Settings\Daniel\Application Data\FALCOM\YS6_WIN.... but its empty. And... I cant play .... is there anything else that i can do to plya this game??? i cant wait HEEELPP!!!!

1. Do not "extract" the 1.1.0.8 patch. Install it.
2. If you have the regular edition (the one with time attack modes, etc - the box has a green "frame" around the box) install the 1.2.0.1 (or something like that) patch. If you have the limited edition (includes Ys COMPLETE WORKS - has a completely grey front box) install the 1.1.0.8 patch.
3. What's your computer specs? You might not be able to play this.
4. DON'T use compatibility mode. This game only runs in XP (unless you have a Jap OS).
5. Reinsall the game with the Jap settings enabled.
6. Don't use the english patch (yet) it doesn't translate anything (except some item names) and it might be causing troubles, but I am not sure.

I did extract the files cause' i cant run the patch, its the same problem with the game, it doesnt run, they just stay in the background doing nothing.... thats why i extarcted them.
I dont think that my computer is the one with the problem, maybe its Windows, its the Win XP Pro SP2 Boot version, my PC specs are:
Pentium 4 @ 1.8Ghz, 512RAM, 80GB HD, GeForce FX 5600 256VRAM....
Pls tell me the steps you guys did to make it run...

Are you SURE you installed that Japanese language pack? I have never encountered anything like that.
