Hey, I just got the free Konami demo disc when you preorder Metal Gear Solid 3. Ys: The Ark of Napishtim is on it! It's got a preview video and a playable demo on it.
I was very curious how it was going to look in action on the PS2. The graphics aren't as crisp as the PC version, but that's to be expected. It's not that bad. I got used to it pretty quickly. And while the 3D models aren't as crisp as the sprites in the PC version, the animation is smoother so there's a trade off there. The gameplay is still intact and it's still fun to play.
The orchestral music in the preview video is really nice. Part of the music was on the E3 trailer, but that was a small snippet of it. If you here the song from the beginning, you notice it's kind of a mix of Olha's theme and "Defend! and Escape!".
Anyway, if you're planning on getting Metal Gear Solid 3, you might want to preorder it at Electronics Boutique so you can get this demo. There are some other demos on the disc too - Silent Hill 4, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, Suikoden 4, Contra... And it's also one of those limited quanities things.

I got the same thing, but, I didn't have to preorder MGS3, but, that's only cuz I have a good friend that's the manager of his EB. Got Midway Arcade Treaures 2 & the demo disc, haven't played Ys yet, I'm almost afraid to, I feel overwhelmed since I haven't played a new Ys, especially in english in a loooooooooooong time. BTW, at the end of the video, it says "The Dawn of Ys is coming". I liked that, they didn't have to say that but, it just fit so well. Also, before you click on anything, the first demo to play, is Ys 6, so people right off the bat will see that game first, plus it has some subtitles if you let it sit there, the first says "the action rpg fan favorite comes back to the US" or something like that. I think Konami knows what it's doing. They're suppoesed to have a history of Ys for all systems on the full game as well.

"The Dawn of Ys is coming" - what? they are releasing Ys 4? <joking> Yeah, I thought that was a nice touch too. And I was thinking the same thing about it being the first demo that pops up! Out of all of those demos they chose Ys to be the first one to come up. I wonder how much marketing they'll give Ys VI. I'm sure they'll have magazine adds, but I'm curious if they'll do commercials for it or not.

Ha ha, I actually though you meant Ys IV before I read onward!
Anyway, is the game fun? So it was true, I thought the game looked a bit worse than the PC version on the screenshots, but it doesn't matter.
How long is the demo version? And where is it? Quatera woods?

My friend has this demo, because he works at EB.
"Hey I have a demo to Ys VI."
Me: "Yeah right, Konami wouldn't release a demo of that."
Then he shows me some screenshots he took with his phone. Oh he will die if he doesn't give it up. Either that or God hates me. "Let's let the person that's never even heard of the franchise play it first. BWA HA HA HA" Yeah screw you god. and your couch.
By the way, the boss music seems to be the same music that plays in the trailer.

The demo is pretty short. It's only part of Quatara Woods (no village) and then you fight the Wandering Calamity (I love the nicknames of the bosses in this game). But then they also let you fight the flying crab-like boss and the statue boss that's part of the wall - which kinda sucks, because they are giving away 3 of the bosses on the demo! I sure hope they add a lot of new bosses, enemies, and stuff.

Yeah, the music on the demo is the same as the PC version. It's odd though about all thing strange things that they have said about the music. First they said "new music". Then they said "all new original orchestral music". Then they said they were going to replace the music with music from the older games (I assume the Turbo games). And in the latest news from the Tokyo Game Show, they said all the music was to be replaced with new music.
I used to be extremely worried about this. But now, not so much. The new music that I've heard (in the video demo on the disc) is an orchestral mix of Olha's theme so that tells me that they are at least trying to keep the music true to the original. From the latest news, it seems like Konami has done it's research and they know about the history of the series and that it's known for it's music.

I don't know if this is in the PC version, but it sounds like when you get hit by an enemy, is the exact same sound used in the older Ys games...atleast, the ones for the Turbo, I can't remember if the other versions I have, have the same sound, but I thought that was cool.

I suppose if you ask nicely, they might. I almost got a 2nd copy, I still could. Do you happen to live in Southern California, cuz maybe I could hook you up with one! BTW, my cousin came over, & he beat the PC version, & said that the music in the forest is different. And he also didn't recognize any of the music in the video demo. He did say the title screen & boss are the same though.

I played the PC version too and the music of the forest area in the PS2 demo is the exact same music as on the PC version. It's the Quatera Woods theme.

If the PS2 version has the song Quatera woods, it's the same.

Yeah, I've got the demo as well. The demo itself is a bit poorly constructed, but it gives a nice example of the gameplay, and lets you take on a couple of different bosses straight from the opening screen.
Also, the intro movie gives you a good tingly feeling.

But the previews for it shows some of the new cut scene , instead of anime it's 3d model chars. not anime like in Ys I&II remake for PS2? that would be bad! or are the 3D models same style as the game...if you can please post a screen of it... but still no anime, that makes me sad....
