When the Ys 6 port was first announced, Konami hinted at a multi-console release. Did they ever give a reason for the lack of a Gamecube (or XBox) port? I think they just meant they were going to release it on PS2 and PSP.

Here's what the very first preview said:
Under the agreement announced today, Konami plans to enhance the game for release on current-generation consoles toward the end of 2004.
I think this implies a Gamecube release also. I just think it's strange that it's only going to be released on the PS2 and PSP, because the PS2 is already crowded with action/rpgs (Musashi, Shining Tears, Full Metal Alcemist), and every Ys game except for DoY has been released on a Nintendo console.

PS2 holds the greatest market share, so it's the obvious choice.
It might have been an obvious choice, but why was it the only choice? They could have easily ported it to the Gamecube, but didn't for some reason.

If they ported the game to the gamecube or the x-box , it would look better in it's 2d graphics , i find many flaws in the ps2 hardware when in comes to 2d

Yes that's quite sad. But finally, why complaining, you can buy it on PC. Owner of a cube and a PC, I am quite satisfied. Moreover now you can expect two big games for end of year : the new Ys (on PC) and the new Zelda. so what ? Buy it by falcom directly

I would love it if the game hit Gamecube, but chances are slim to none at best for the reasons Deuce stated. I've got all 3 current consoles and I'd say the GC is my favorite by far. Even if it gets shoddy ports of 3rd party games, or in most cases no ports at all. At least it's hitting PSP as well as PS2. I'm guessing it's gonna end up lost in the shuffle on PS2 though even if it's getting good reviews. Hopefully it gets out early enough on PSP so it'll sell tons to people wanting an action-RPG fix when there isn't much to choose from. I wonder if there's any chance of the Legend of Heroes games getting brought over to the US PSP? I don't wanna buy one, but I might have to if those make it over...

Since I live in europe I'm currently waiting for the end of March, then they will announce if they will release Ys on PS2 in europe (if anybody tells anything different it's NOT true, this is from Konami Europe directly). if it's not released on PS2 it will be my reason to buy a PSP and get the USA import of it. and indeed konami isn't a big supporter of Cube or X-box. all ports of konami games to x-box/cube were done by daughter corp. not konami in house. ps: people in europe and want Ys PAL release? call your local Konami office to get them to know that there is a wide selection of Ys fans in europe and so they will release it.
